Our family name originated in Switzerland and today many Tonascia's still reside in that country.
It is great to find another person with this proud name.
Is this your maiden name ?

Dear Gene,
It was great to hear from you. No this is my family name I ave always used it even though I have children things didn't work out with my partner.
After I left the message on the board I went into California >
death records and saw that a few Tonascia's listed there were born in Switzerland. My great grandfather was Guiseppe Tonacia (tonascia) 1838 -1912 born
Locarno, Switzerland son of Remigge & Maria Tonacia. I also have the name

Hi all,

My name is Alessandro Tonascia Losa, I am Swiss but I live and work in Asia,I can help you about your name, since my Mother is a Tonascia.
The Family Tonascia come exactly from Verdasio (Cantovalli),is a "frazione" from Intragna about 4 Km.
Intragna was the main Village and Verdasio, like one place where the people use to keep the animal and farm a little what was possible, like Castagne,vegetable...
About 100 to 150 year a go many people emigrate,California,Australia and France.
They use to take a boat in Genova, and from Intragna walk there about 350 Km!! they care the food for 3 to 6 months, and some money who they collect among the villager.
Now Switzerland is one of the richest country, but you have to know how it was the live before specially in this part of this country "Ticino" the Italian part of Switzerland.
Exist a lot of book about, and maybe you can get some more from where you belong and about your Family, but of course are write in Italian.

Regards

Alessandro

Hi Joe,
Great to hear from you, my name is Deborah timms and I live in Melbourne Australia. My great great grandfather was Guiseppe Tonascia born in Locarno Switzerland on 30th april 1838. He changed the spelling of his name to Tonacia on arrival in Australia in 1858. His parents were Rumigge (unsure of the spelling) & Maria. I am unsure of her maiden name, however, on Guiseppes marriage certificate her name was listed as Maria madonna, ( I am not sure if madonna is a surname or a second christian name. I would love to know more about yoyr family to see if there is any connection.

Hi there. I am looking for my Father. His name is Mark Eugene Tonascia. He put me up for adoption in 1979 and I recently found out his information and would love to be able to find him! I was born in Portland Oregon and I know I was born in a Portland hospital. My mom's name was Cheryl Trimble but she signed my birth certificate as Tonascia. I understand Tonascia is not a common name so I hope the search won't be too long. My origional name on my birth certificate was Jessica Rae Tonascia, if that helps at all. Thank you for your time!
