Sorry, I've been out of town on business the past few days.
Hmmm...just not sure about this...our family (Dan and Elena Toma family) came from a different part of Romania (county of Arad, towns of Arad and Nadloc, on the border with Hungary---and my great-grandfather spoke Magyar as well as Romanian). I do think Toma is a pretty common name in Romania, by the way. It is interesting that both families settled in the Gary/Portage area, though, and I do know we had some connection (in-laws? cousins?) with some Sams. I think there were a lot of Romanians who settled in that area---someone tells my there is actually a Romanian Orthodox church somewhere around. If our families weren't related, they may still have known each other.
I'd be happy to post your request to our MyFamily site, and see if we can make a connection for you.
One request: would you mind giving me your grandparents' full names (or you can e-mail them to
la_kathykat@myfamily.com if you don't want to post them here)? Any additional information I have might help me track this down.
