Hi there, Tolbert (or Talbott, Tabbott, Talbert) Tucker was my 3rd great grandfather, and I have been looking for more information on him as well, though I haven't been as successful as you. Would you kindly share where you got the information of his first marriage to Polly Perkins? Any particular place I can look? I know that he was indeed married before Nancy Sullivant (Ashby) from a court transcript in 1879 where his daughter, Rebecca Tucker (married to R.H. Ledbetter) was listed as a half-sister of Morgan Tucker. In most family trees and censuses Rebecca & Morgan are listed together under the household of "Tabbott" and Nancy Tucker, so I would truly appreciate any information you can give me on Tolbert and Polly Perkins.
Good luck with your search, and thanks for any help you can provide!

Thank you so much for writing back to me! Yes, I have had a horrible time tracking down this unusual name "Tolbert" - and I agree with you, the census takers were either not too concerned or tried their best to record names where the people were likely unable to spell... I am a Brison, related to the Tuckers through Rebecca Jane Tucker, who is my 2nd great grandmother. She married R.H. Ledbetter and their child, Ollie Frances (or Ollie Malinda) married Benjamin Levi Bryson, my great grandad.
I recently stumbled on to the Tuckers and was able to get a great deal of information on John Bennett Tucker, and through him, pieces of information on his siblings, but as always, very little information on our elusive Tolbert, lol.
As a thought, since most of the people you are in contact with are through John Bennett, I recently found in one of my searches that he was noted as a Reverend in the Baptist tradition, as was Tolbert (a deacon of Zion Church in Union County, KY). I was wondering if anyone on the ground had access to Baptist church minutes or other records that might shed a light on Tolbert and his children? Usually the Baptist church would keep very good records, letters, biographies and even wills or family bibles, so I was wondering if you've ever heard about any such records...? I live all the way in Greece, so it is near impossible to get access to any paper records that might be held in a library or historical society, or even to order copies of things, and we all know there is a limit to where online research can take you....
Let's please keep in touch - we are, after all, distant relations! And if there is anything you can get from my tree, please let me know. I'd love to share any information we come up with!
Warmly,
Nicole
PS: There is a Tolbert Tucker listed in the Roster of North Carolina Revolutionary War soldiers (1778) most likely from Halifax, NC. There is another Talbert Tucker listed in the NC Census from Halifax as well (1784-1787 Census). I don't know if it is unrelated, but as I too have wondered whether "Tolbert" is a family name - I thought I'd put that out there and see if you've had any contact with any North Carolina Tuckers that might be able to help?

Dear Gladys,
You are so sweet! After several days away, I am back home and it was lovely to see your message. I recently received a message from Nancy Tucker, who said she was also in touch with you. Our circle is widening and hopefully we will have more information to compare and go through!
I would truly be interested in reading the genealogy book for Hardin County with your contributions - I think that would be very interesting! Let me know who I could call to "pressure" them about it? I'd love a copy and would be more than happy to ask why it is taking so long to give you your own copy?
With regard to your family life - you sound truly blessed with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren!! What a treasure! May you have enduring good health to enjoy each and every day with your loved ones!
My warmest regards,
Nicole
