Not sure what the precise relationship is called. I can just go with your great-great-grandfather James C. Tolan is my great-grandfather. Or, your great-grandfather is my grandfather's brother. Some sort of cousins. I have a little bit more info on the Tolan side. Feel free to email me if you want what I have. gtolan@comcast.net

I work for the Duluth Police Department. I saw a small flier dated October 18,1919 that Chief Tolan of the Escanaba P.D. sent out to the Duluth(Mn) Chief. It had the heading "Lost" and it was reference his nephew Harold, age 14. Thought you may be interested. If it's not too personal do you know if Harold was found?

I know a Harold Tolan was a great grandson of John Tolan, Grandson of James Tolan, and son of Carl Tolan. Carl's brothers were my Grandfather Frank, and Gerald Tolan. I know Frank was not Police Chief, so that could leave Gerald, who I don't know much about. Harold was born in 1905, so that would put him at 14 years old, when the article was out. He lived in Escanaba his whole life I believe and apparently found, since he live to be 92 years old. Maybe due to his adventurous nature. I think James Tolan's brother was also named John, and I think he was a Police chief, so he would have been a Great Uncle to Harold.
