Angela. I got the following information from Bernal Tolan of Hillsdale, Michigan. (I had thought he might be from my Tolan clan, but at least back several generations, he is not.) Joseph David Tolan was born in Burte, NY. He was married to Cora Houk of Michigan. Joseph's father was Joseph Henry Tolan, b. 2/5/1862 in New York. His grandparents were John Tolan, born presumably in New York, and Mary Jane Johnston. John Tolan was a civil war vet, and died in Georgia. This Tolan line originated in England. You might try contacting Bernal Tolan for more if this is your Joseph Tolan.

Hello Angela,
I am the supposed great-grand daughter of Joe Tolan. He was married to Sarah Alice Fitts on Apr 29th, 1920 in Windsor Vermont. They had two children, one boy, who died tragically as a baby, and one girl, my maternal grandmother Alice N. Tolan, who later married into the Taylor family. We knew that Joe and Sarah were divorced before he moved to Michigan and then Sarah disappeared, leaving my grandmother to be raised by the MacKenzie Family. I would be interested in any information that you may uncover about what happened after the divorce, why Alice Tolan was abandoned and what may have happened to her mother.
