Hi Karen,
Im your Mum's cousin from NZ (one of 74 first cousins). My mother was Gay, the 13th of the 17 Tohill children.
I was one of the organisers of a family reunion last year, when we tried hard to get in touch with all Tohills. Couldnt get your Mum on a plane, but your Aunt Dot came. Some suggest we should have another reunion, say in 2008 which is the anniversery x100 of the marriage of your great grandma and grandfather.
Do you have any information from Belfast re James Tohill. I've checked his records in Melbourne with the Police History Museum. I noticed he was not listed with the Irish Constabulary, which doesnt mean he didnt serve with them in Ireland, just that he didnt come to Australia that way, I guess. If you've got anything from Belfast Id love to see it.
By "The original family" do you mean going back to Ireland? Hugh knows everything there is to know about that.
As to your NZ relatives, where Uncle Jack, your grandfather was born, there are many of us and we keep in touch.
We thought we might get up a web page and put all the photos on. Also, there were three newsletters leading up to the Reunion...called "Tohill Times". look forward to hearing from you....Your Mum's cousin Frankie
