My paternal great-grandmother was Caroline Toffel Blaske (Blaschke) who was born on 10/23/1857 and died in 4/27/1924. She was born in East Prussia and married August Blaske (Blaschke)in East Prussia before coming to America and settling in central Minnesota. There were 14 children in the family and my grandfather, Frederick, was number five. Does this coincide with anyone's family history?

Hi! There are either two Frederick Blaske's or you may mean Frederick Blaske was your great-uncle? I've lived away from Minn. for many years but recognize the last name of Kasner. I don't know the town in East Prussia, but suspect it is in the area that would have had Neidenburg as the county seat.
This total area appears to be as large as Benton County with many small villages. The family spoke both Polish and German and this area is right on what was the German border.
I used to live in Sauk Rapids but now live in Kansas City.

Dear Duane,

Frederick Wilhelm Blaschke (Blaske) is my paternal grandfather. He was born Jan. 11, 1885-Dec. 4, 1952 in central Minnesota, probably near Foley. I believe he was the first child of that family to have been born in America. Caroline Toffel was his mother, my paternal great-grandmother. The dates I have for her are Oct. 23, 1857-April 27, 1929. I believe she was born somewhere in East Prussia when it was still a country. There were 14 children in the family and I think my grandfather was number five. Does this help?

Your info is very helpful. One question on your material. I have the following dates for Caroline 10/23/1857 - 4/27/1924. Could you please check again on dates. One of the items I am looking for is the date that they come to the US. I am pllaning a trip to Chicago to do some research at the National Archives. If possible I would like to find their travel records.
Thank you, Duane

Hello, Duane,

You are correct on the dates for Caroline Toffel. It was a misprint on my part and the year she died should be 1924. You are way ahead of me in this research, I have been helping my husband researching his family and have been doing research on my father. Just beginning on my mother's side. My mother was Minnie Blaske Krolzek Schriefels and she was the oldest daughter of Frederick (Fred) Blaske (Blaschke.) My grandmother was Augusta Reberg.

Marie,
I am very blessed because one of my aunts on my mothers sid has assembled a list of all the family lines that she could find. The only problem with her information is it has only names. In order to make communication easier my email address is dk85840@navix.net. I will be happy to share with you the information that I have.

Classification: Query
I bought a painting signed Fred Blaschke dated 1956. It has three women in the foreground, one petting a white dog, another viewing the farming man approaching with a hoe on his sholder the other sitting on a stool. there is a man plowing by horse a lone farm house in the distance and a church on the foothills in the far background. Is this the same Fred Blaschke that made the exhibits of the cave men in the Smithsonian in Washington? Was your relative a artist?
