Well, we are a rare species...at least by surname...especially in the States.
If anyone out there in the U.S. of A. wants to share his/her background briefly...come on down! I was born here, both parents from Italy (Vicenza/Padova provinces). I grew up in Italy and I am now living in the SW Chicago Suburbs.I saw 3 listings in the phone directory (my name isn't there - I'm unlisted). Certainly there might be a few more, but probably not many...we are rare.
Ciao for now.

Hi Joseph,

My grandmother was Teresa Toffanello and she married
Giovanni Zonta - they lived in Padova; had 2 sons,
Italo and Francesco Zonta Toffanello - My father
immigrated to Venezuela S.A. after the 2nd world war -
Francesco remained in italy and died in Treviso.
Teresa from what I know had a sister named Maria that
married a Trevese. I don't remember if she had any
other sisters or a brother - (I wish my father was still
alive to ask him) ... Do you know any of these people ?

let me know. I have a 1/2 brother in Italy that I would
like to find - his name is Giovanni Zonta and leaves
in Padova. He doesen't know who I am...

Hi Celeste,

I completely forgot that I posted the message on 'Ancestry.com'.
Thank you for replying.
As I mentioned, my father was from Stroppari, muncipality of Tezze sul Brenta. My mother (still living) is from Cittadella (Padova). She now lives in Cusinati (miinucipality of Rosa'), about 3 miles north of Cittadella and 2 miles NE of Stroppari and 5 miles south of Bassano del Grappa. I have a sister and two brothers still living there (the sister and one brother were born here in the States like myself). I'm single and I am a full-time probation officer in the circuit court of Cook County (that's the county where Chicago and surrounding suburbs are located).

Hope to hear from you.

Joe

Zonta is a very common last name in northern (especially nel Veneto) Italy.
I do not know these people.
I will send your e-mail home to Italy and see whether my mother knows anything.
As far as your half brother is concerned, try doing a phone search on a phone directory web site (switchboard.com) or access Italy's Telecom site.

Good luck.

Hope to hear from you.

Joe

Joe:

Not sure if you still check this website. If you do, could you touch base with me at paultoffanello@gmail.com - this is my new email address.
I have just retired from my position as Director of Education from the Catholic school board in our northeast region of the province of ONtario. I am planning a trip across the states with the intention of heading to Phoenix, LOs Angeles, and north to Vancouver (where my two older dauthers live)and I thought I might swing by, if you were amenable, and visit with the Toffanello family in Chicago.
If you are open to the idea, Joe, I would be glad to see you and we could compare family notes.
Let me know if this works. If so, I might need driving instructions and names of a hotel/motel/bed&breakfast where I will park myself for a day and a night.
Hope this works for you. Would love to meet you and the family.
Be in touch either way.
Paul
