Tod family in Canada

I am looking for the decendants of John Tod who came to Canada to work for the Hudson's Bay Company in 1811. He worked his way across Canada and settled in the Kamloops area and was a strong figure in the local history. He eventually settled in Victoria
and the house he built in 1850 is still there and is the oldest residence in BC.
I was told as child that we were related to this man but I'm not sure if that is true. I have very little information on the ancestrial links except that my paternal Grandmother's maiden name was Alma Tod, and was born in the Kamloops area. Apparently John Tod had 3 wives during his life, one who went back to Britain in ill health. Perhaps I am a decendant of his brother James, who I believe farmed in the Kamloops area. Any history about these men's family history and relatives would be very appreciated.

saw your message regarding John Tod and may be able to provide some help. My tie is through Elizabeth Tod, daughter of John Tod and Sophie Lolo. According to my information James Tod was born about 1820 to John Tod and Catherine Bristowe (?sp), amrried about 1857 to Flora Macauley and died about 1904 in Victoria BC.
Love to hear from you

sorry I didnt see your email earlier.. my family was a big part in getting walkerburn up and running so to speak. it was estabilished circa 1874 it was a wool/tweed mill town and sadly is not in the woolen industry anymore the mills are gone and the mill lade has been filled in I think . My father was born in Galashields but raised from a very young age in Walkerburn. He is still with us thank god so if you have questions I would be happy to ask he loves to tell stories and remember when.. my parents immigrated to Canada in 1954 with my brothers. my aunt still lives near by in Kelso and I have been there many times. I hope you had a great time and got to see things ect. the hills around the valley were planted with trees in the late 60's but my father still talks about the walks over the hills to other villages to dances and watching the german planes flying over during wwII. please contact me if you like.

I am also very interested in information on John Tod at Kamloops. My brother, Stephen tod, born March 26, 1945 of Kalamazoo, Michigan, researched our ancestry and was able to follow family threads back to this John Tod. I believe that he was born in Edinburg and was married to a Janet Stuart, my sister Janet is named after this ancestor.

We understand that his descendants eventually moved to Winnepeg. My father, John Charles Wellesley Tod was born in Winnepeg in 1917 of parents Herbert Gladstone Tod and Beatrice Mason Tod of Detroit, Michigan.

I was born in Detroit, MI in 1950, but grew up in Royal Oak, MI, 11 miles northeast of Detroit. I have one brother, Stephen and 4 sisters: twins Nancy and Janet, Sally and MaryJane.

Herbert Tod had an aunt that we called Auntie May, but I am not sure if she was a Tod.

About 15 years ago I responded to a geneology ad that stated a register of all of the Tod's (with one "d") and a coat of arms would be forwarded to me. I received the register, and it is a wonderful, informational work.

I would like to hear from you if you are interested in communicating.

Sincerely,

Susan Carol Tod

Hi....Sophia Lolo Tod was great great grandmother. her daughter Elizabeth married James Drummond, their daughter Lenora married Cecil Magill.
What part of the line are you?
We believe (no proof) that Sophia's father was Lolo St Paul, aka etc etc etc...probably a French-Canadian Indian. Our family lore is that he was Sushwap (near Kamloops) but ???....it is a mystery. The Kamloops museum does have a reference to him, a photo circa 1870-ish and his 'likeness' in a display.
Drummond was from Scotland, probably with the Hudson Bay Co as was John Tod....but that about it as far as we know. Lenora was orphaned at about 3-4 years (1884) and was raised by aunts in Victoria. She next turns up at age 20 in Egypt marrying Cecil (1904) who was in the Inniskiling Fusiliers stationed there. Not sure how she got there, where they met..although it is family lore that they met on English weekend party near London. Again no real proof or
documentation and I haven't found any immigration/travel passports or arrivals yet either.
lots still to discover

Hello Tina...it's nice to have finally connected with someone in the family on the Lolo side. Yes, we too, believe that Sophia was the daughter of Lolo St. Paul. She was a sister to one of the other daughters that's connected to our family and I've done a bit of searching to find information on Sophia. There were few records kept at that time and even fewer of the First Nations people. I did locate the information that Lenora (Leonora) married Aurthur Cecil Kinley Magill who was born in 1880 in Tyrone, Ireland. My records also indicate that Lenora died in 1929 in Seattle, Washington. I located a New York passenger list dated Oct 22 1905 for a Leonora Marguerite Magill and Aurthur Cecil Kinley Magill who's last residence was Cairo and his Nationality was listed as England. Their final destination is listed as Vicoria, BC. In 1910 they are listed in the USA census for Washington and they have a son listed by the name of Cecil D Magill who was 4 yrs old at the time. They also have their immigration year as 1907. I currently live in Kamloops and have a bit of information on the family. I'm willing to share information that I've collected on the Tod family. The sister to Sophia remained in the Kamloops area and married another HBC man and raised her family in this area. This sister is in the picture you've made reference to in your post. I look forward to hearing from you.
