Surnames: Toccoli
Dear Samantha,
The Toccoli in my family originated from Pietramurata Province of Trento in Italy. We found my mother's cousins and one of them started corresponding with her, isn't that wondeful? (my mother is 73 years old now, she lost contact with them when she was aroun 18). We can ask her cousin and another Toccoli who is not related but who has been so kind in writing to us. Do you know your grandpa's wife's name? or any children's names?
I'll keep you posted. Have a wonderful day!
Olga

Well, what I learned from the research is that the Toccoli families originated form what used to be Austria, North Tyrol. After WWI that region became part of Italy (actually, it was returned to Italy) and now is called Alto Adige. They spoke a dialect similar to German, Austrian, most of the families spoke Italian too due to the ancestors originally been Italians. My mother's aunt married a Parisi so her cousins are Parisi Toccoli too. In Trento there are two different families that have same last name but are not related. I looked at a map and the largest consentration of people with the last name Toccoli are in North Itali, in the Alto Adige. Pietramurata, Dro, Trento.
Hope you find more about your 'nono'
Ciao

Greetings,

My name is Patti Berteotti and my ancestors came from Cavedine, Italy(what was classified as Tyrol). Some of the Berteotti family stayed in the USA,some went to Canada and others went to South America. My Gr-gr-grandparents were Elisabetha Bassetti and Desiderio Berteotti. Elisabetha's parents were Antonio Bassetti and Appalonia Dorigatti.

There were families of Berteotti, Bassetti, Dorigatti, Chiste', Chemotti,Pederzolli, and Dallape' that all went to South America and all around the same time. Most were related, if not by blood then through marriage.

I'm not sure if this helps....please let me know.

Patti;
My grandfather was named Leone Toccoli and he immigrated to Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada in around 1904 with his wife Adele (nee Brighante). I have very little information about them but he came from Pietramurata, Italy. In Lethbridge, where I grew up there are all those names that you gave in your message: Chiste, Berteotte, Dorigatti. I can't be more helpful than that as I know nothing about any extended family from Italy.
This doesn't sound very helpful...

My last name is Toccoli and my parents immigrated to canada from Italy in the 1950s. All my family is still in Italy (they live in Trento). Most of my father's brothers and sisters have passed away but my aunt is still living, I could always ask her some questions. I know my grandfathers name was constante toccoli.

That's really interesting to read because all my family still lives in Tento and yes it is called alto adige (it means high stream) the Adige passes trough Trento. The provence in Italy is called Trentino alto adige. If any of you ever visit, let me know.
