Jacob and Annie Toback born in Vilna in 1830's had one child,. Isadore Toback, who wed Sara Hena Iaisch and moved to Berlin and then Manhattan. Most of their children moved to northern New Jersey. Children's names were Harry, Leopold, and Emma (Ress). Isadore had 2 half-brothers named Nathan and Sam, both who worked in gentleman's clothes in Hoboken/Jersey City. Anything sound familiar? Some of my Tobacks also moved to Chicago but they were originally in New Jersey and New York. Other families related to the Tobacks were Iaisch (Import), Becker, Rosenberg, Goldstein, and November. Do any of these names sound familiar?

I have some information on David, Libby and ZPincus Toback and their descendants who were primarily from NYC. I have been trying to solve a family mystery: my father has a friend from the Boy Scouts who is related via the Tobacks, particularly Hyman Toback, but I can't seem to connect him to our Tobacks although I know they are related. Thanks, Michelle Fanwick Wilton, CT

Jim, Did the Tobacks you mentioned come from Poland? Some of my Tabaka's used the name Toback and Tabak in this country also. They were from Galicia (now the Malopolski area of Poland). They came from villages of Wolka Sokolowska, Wokla Niedzwiedzka, and Brzoza Krolewksa.
My grandfather Adam Tabaka (Tobacka) married Anna Wielgosz, and they moved to Mahanoy City & Park place in Schuylkill County PA. My father Theophil was born there in 1910.
Do you have any family with the surname KUDUK, HAIDER, or SWAJA?
