With the free release of the 1911 Census, I found my Great Grandmother Mary married to James Toal along with her son John McCann and a Thomas Toal in Carrickedmond, Faughart, County Louth. Does anyone have a connection to this James Toal?

Thank you

Hi,

My name is Linda Duffy, I am from Carrickedmond. I was just looking at the boards and although I do not have a link to you I have some records that may interest you. Mary McCann married James Toal 14.5.1901 in Kilcurry. Witnesses were Michael Toal and Rose Toal. There is no information on the parish records baptismals for their children, they probably took them to Armagh as it says on the 1911 they were born there.

Sorry I can not be anymore assistance
Linda

Good morning Linda,
What a nice surprise. How exciting to get this marriage information. I thought my inquiry was a lost cause. Would you mind providing me with the name of the parish in whihc they were married? I want to see if they have record of the death and burial of her two daughters, Catherine and Brigit McCann.
You have no idea how much I appreciate you providing me with this information. Do you need any research in the U.S., especially California? I'll be more than willing to see if I can help you.

Thanks again,
Maureen Sausen

Msureen,
You sre very welcome. I recognize the Toal name. There were alot of them in Forkhill and that area around the South Armagh Border. I would assume your Toal originally came from there. Carrickedmond is in the parish of Faughart as is Kilcurry. Full address Carrickedmond, kilcurry, Dundalk, Co Louth.

I take it Mary was married and had kids before she married James Toal. Do you know who she was married to before.
Its weird the 1911 census says they were married 19 years but the parish records are only 11 years and their children are all older. The only thing is that this is incorrect information and they may have been married elsewhere!!

There is no mention of Carrickedmond Toals in the very limited death records of the parish, I just had a look and theres nothing. There is no graves for Catherine or Brigit in the graveyard or records. I checked the marriage records and there is nothing. There are no graves for James and Mary either.

My email is llindaduffy@yahoo.com if you email me there I will forward the marriage record I have.

Linda

HI!
I saw your post above and hope that you are still on ancestry.com.

I am possibly related to the Michael and Rose (Roddy) Toal mentioned above, but what interested me more is your last name!

My great grandmother Anne McEnaney Toal was buried in a cemetery (I believe it was Farguart Graveyard) in the same plot as some relatives (cousins?) by the last name of Duffy. She died about 1947. Although I am in the USA there are lots of my McEnaney relatives still living in your area. Any chance that we might be related?

Hi Donna,
Sorry to take so long to answer you. Do you know if James & Mary McCann Toal are buried in that cemetery? I know when James died but I don't know when Mary died. Are there any members of James' children's families still in the area? As far as the McEananey name is concerned you need to contact Lindaduffy@yahoo.com. She was actually the person with that name in her message.

Thanks for your reply!

The James that was getting married may be a brother to Michael Toal, & and sister in law to Rose.

Michael had a son named James who was married to the Anne McEnaney that was previously mentioned. My great grandparents.

All of their children actually came to America - Boston - except one. Winifred Toal Fagan.

They lived in what was once a farm building on the grounds of Claret Rock in Ballymascanlon. 1900-1920 or so.

Winnie married Michael Fagan and stayed in the area for a number of years. Some of her children stayed in Ireland, some came to the Boston area, but they mostly moved closer to Dublin in the 1960s. Anne Fagan in Boston and Maura Fagan Stanley in Dublin are the only ones I know, that is still living. She would be about 78 years old. Besides Maura the children included, Frank, Michael, Colm, Breige, Dympna. I think I am missing a couple!
