Looking for info and photos about Carlos Toadvine. He was an entertainer in Lexington/Danville Kentucky during the 1950s, and 60s. His stage name was Little Enis. I believe he may have died in Tamp Florida in the 1970s. Would also love to have some of his music.
Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

The Lexington Herald-Leader did a story on Little Enis (interviewed his daughters and had pictures of him) a few months back. It was a Sunday edition. The Herald-Leader is in Lexington, Kentucky. I am sure you can contact them and get a back issue copy.

I descend from Purnell Toadvine through William Henry Toadvine.

HI:

I'm Michael Ralston I performed with "Little Enis" in
Lexington, Kentucky at a Bar/Restaurant called Comer's.
I was living in Lexington, Kentucky and attending the
University of Kentucky as an applied piano major. With
'Little Enis' I played 4-string electric bass in a group
along with Clyde Foley, guitar (his uncle was Red Foley) and John and Frank Tremble organ and drums. At one point
Clyde's wife Barbara played organ, We didn't have the
luxury of a steel guitar or fiddle.
We didn't record any records. "Little Enis" sang some Hank
Williams tunes.
He introduced me once as the "Hillbilly
Jew" from New York.
He had an unorthodox way of playing the guitar.

Thanks for that info. Very interesting for sure. Unorthodox is the right word for Carlos's guitar playing. It was just plain backwards and upside down! He was left handed, but rather than reversing the strings on his guitar, he just learned to chord over the top of the neck, and strum or pick from the bottom upwards. Thanks again for the info.
Gary

Hello All,
My name is Tracy and I have recently learned that Carlos Toadvine is my biological Father. My mother was,at the time, a bar maid in Lexington where he played. I grew up in Waynesburg Ky. (Lincoln County). I would appreciate any information or photos I can get. From the bits and pieces I have heard about him so far, I am porbably not the only child outside of his family that he fathered. As a side note: I was at Renfro Valley a few years back and someone mistook me for his oldest daughter.
I can be reached at TMAY74@yahoo.com
Thank you.

Thanks a million for the songs. I have now launched a tribute page for little Enis. To anyone reading this, I am still looking for some pictures of this entertainer, as well as more music to add to the tribute page. Please note: My interest in MR. Toadvine is strictly in his career as a rockabilly artist.

Thanks,
Gary
