Surnames: TODVEN, TOADVIN, TODVIN, TOTEVINE
The name shows up as early as 1820 in Maryland. Don't believe Indians were enumerated in the federal census then. Hope this helps. Have seen multiple spellings, including TODVEN, TOADVIN, TODVIN, TOTEVINE in various states, including Kentucky. We are trying to locate a John Toadvine who was imprisoned by the Union in Illinois in the Civil War. There is a very interesting story about him passed down in Alabama, where a town was named in his honor. ahogan@nc5.infi.net

All information I have tracked down seems to lead back to the Channel Islands.

I really have hit a major roadblock with this name.

I will let you all know if I come across anything on John.

My relative, Kitsie was possible from NC originally and then in Georgia.

The KY TOADVINES came from the Eastern Shore of MD. The first record in MD was a marriage in 1675 between Nicholas TOADVINE/TOSTEVIN (from Guernsey, Channel Islands) and Sarah LOWRY. A kind gentleman in the UK sent me a copy of an article about the Guernsey TOSTEVINs. The aforementioned Nicholas was in the last generation mentioned in the article.

Purnell TOADVINE and his wife, Zeporah FOOKS came to KY in 1811. I have a picture of their grave monuments.

Pam, You and my husband are third cousins. I have pictures of the monuments and our lineage on my website

I am interested in your line. July 15, 2001 there will be a reunion for the descendants of Purnell TOADVINE and Zepporah FOOKS in Cynthiana, KY. There are SLADES still in the Cynthiana, Harrison Co., KY area. Two of Purnell's and Zeporah's daughter married two SLADE brothers

My grandmother was Edna Louise Everhart)Toadvine. She was married to Charles Elston Toadvine. He had at least one brother, Harry (Harold?). They are supposed to be from Cynthiana, KY. There is supposed to be a yearly reunion in KY. Does anyone have any information about this? I can be reached at mermaid_2627@yahoo.com. Thanks
