The Strange Story of the Tlumaks

The Strange Story of the Tlumaks

OK, I can't seem to find info anywhere else, so I figured I'd see whether anyone here can help.

My mother's father's family is the Tlumaks. My grandfather (Thomas Tlumack, 1920-1983) decided to add the "c," but the rest of the family remained Tlumak.

Anyway, I'm trying to find info on three people specifically:

1. The parents of the Tlumak clan were Abraham Tlumak and Rose. I know virtually nothing about Rose, except that she was born in NYC likely in the mid 1880s to immigrant parents of Hungarian descent. I don't even know her surname; according to Fred Tlumak's page on Find-a-Grave, it is "Surgingy," however, I cannot find anything whatsoever even close to that name. She died in Brooklyn in 1952. If anyone knows anything about her, or could direct me to some way of finding anything, it would be greatly appreciated.

2. Abe and Rose kept quite busy as far as copulating - there were apparently 12 (that we know of) Tlumak children. One of them that my mother didn't recognize at all who came up on every census was Henry. I found an OLD message on another site where his brother Seymour (dead, as they all are) stated that Henry had changed his name to Henry Hamilton Fields and moved to New Orleans, and the family hadn't heard from him since. I have had no luck finding anything for Henry Tlumak, Harry Tlumak (as he was listed on one census), Henry Fields, Henry H. Fields, or Henry Hamilton Fields. He was born in 1905 or 1906 in Brooklyn NY.

3. The mystery of "Uncle Joe." My mother insists that the oldest brother was Joe/Joseph Tlumak, but he doesn't come up on any of the censuses, or anywhere else, for that matter. All I know about him is that he was married to Rita (deceased in Florida) and one of his children is Jeffrey Tlumak, professor of philosophy in Tennessee. If anyone can locate any record of him, or suggest where to look...

Any and all suggestions and help appreciated. Thanks.

Jess

Oooh, some of these I've seen, some I haven't.

Gloria whatsherface was my grandfather's third (yes, third) wife... so my mother (and grandma) didn't really take too kindly to her. I didn't know they married in Vegas though.

Hyman was one of the brothers. So was Jess (though I didn't know his wife was also enlisted!)

Blanche was someone's wife... maybe Fred's. Fred was married twice. I know the second time was to Anastasia (who the rest of the family apparently hated because she was Greek).

The Pennsylvania Tlumacks are possibly distant relations, but I don't know of a recent (as in, Abraham's brother or something, or later than that) connection. They also seem distinctly more Christian (lots of Catherines, Pauls, Marys, etc). Tlumaks in Michigan (either Hyman or Irving's kids/grandkids/etc), Tennessee (the missing Joe's offspring) and Florida are definite connections, though.

Be glad you're not related - if you were, you'd have spent most of your life attempting to explain to seemingly intelligent people how to pronounce two simple letters!

Thank you for the Army records, as I didn't have those yet. And Tommy's third marriage... :P

Jess
