Our family (grandpa) originated from southern poland, about 50 miles from the czec border.

The correct wording the L has a dash over it, giving the name an oo sound, too-check. It means pounding or making noise in Polish.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have anymore questions, but I'm a stressed college student so I apoligize if I'm slow in response :)

Tluczek -L is Silent.
My father came from near or around Lublin Poland when he was 8, over 60 years ago. He did not speak a word of English. His father had 3 Brothers; Walter, Joseph, John. His father remarried after his wife had passed. I know there are Tluczeks or Tuczeks in Chicago, New York, California, Florida and Michigan. I only know my first cousins and a few second. I know that we have a well extended family; too many to count.

My father was Frank Tluczek also. He came from a family of 14 children that were born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.. All of them are now deceased. However, there are many children (cousins) of mine that are living. My grandfather on my dad's side was Vincent Tluczek. Despite the fact that he could hardly read or write, he died owning 40 some properties and was trying to set up a construction company with his sons Frank, George, Joseph, Walter, Stanley, and some I am not familiar with because they died young or were killed in the war. When we lived in the Chicago area, we were contacted by a woman who said we must be related to her because her last name is Tluczek. However, when we tried to set up a time to meet her family, we discovered that they were in the process of moving to Florida and we lost contact.
We later learned that there are Tluczeks that are living in Indiana, but never tried to contact them before we moved to Cave Creek, AZ.. A 2nd cousin, whose father was the son of one of my dad's sisters with the last name Karpinski, was trying to do a family tree on the Tluczeks. She had poor results since many of the Tluczeks didn't reply to her communications. If you are interested, I can give you her e-mail address and she would send you any information she has accumulated.

Thanks for the info. I am aware of the correct pronunciation of Tluczek (Twoo-check). The L has a line through it that gives it a "w" sound. I learned that in grade school from the Polish nuns. I am Polish on both sides of my family all the way to Warsaw, Poland. Both sets of my grandparents were from Poland. We always pronounce our name Lucheck to avoid explanations and terrible pronunciations like Tuloozek, or Twitcheck. It works out much better.
