COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON STATE.

Chet O'Konek, 75, longtime Moses Lake resident, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2005 at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving father, grandfather, husband and friend. Chet was loved and respected by all that knew him. He was kind and caring to all and will be missed greatly. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 10, 2005 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father John Morse, S.J. celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Our Lady of Fatima columbarium. Arrangements are in care of Kayser's Chapel and Crematory, Moses Lake.

Chester was born July 7, 1930 in Benton County in rural Minnesota to John and Susan (Tkaczik) O'Konek. He spent his younger years in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Chet entered the U. S. Air Force in 1950 and came to reside in Moses Lake where he finished his service to his country at Larsen Air Force Base in 1954.

He married his beloved wife, Alice Hagen on September 10, 1955. They made their home and raised their family here in Moses Lake. Chet and Alice just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Chet's wife and family meant everything to him.


Chet was an active member of the Moses Lake Elks Lodge, the VFW, the American Legion and the Moose Lodge. He really enjoyed playing pool and visiting with his good friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Alice A. O'Konek; his children and their spouses, Kathryn and Earl Brischle, Michael and Carlene O'Konek, David O'Konek and Susan O'Konek; grandchildren, Casey and Christine Brischle, Jason Brischle, Travis Brischle, Jared O'Konek, Derek O'Konek and his granddogs, Ace and Kobe. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Susan O'Konek; a son that died in infancy, Douglas; brothers, Adam, Harold, Ambrose and Carl; and sisters, Helene and Sally.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Chet's name to the Moses Lake Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 1337, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
