John W. Tkacs, of North Braddock, went peacefully home Tuesday, April 12, 2011. He was born Dec. 30, 1923, in McKean County, the son of the late John W. and Sue (Mitchko) Tkacs. He was the devoted husband of the late Ann M. (Ragancsik) Tkacs; and the loving father of Dennis P. (Cheryl), of Greensburg, Maryann (Leon) Szwedko, of O'Hara, and John J. (Rachel), of Monroeville; and two granddaughters, Lydia and Meredith Tkacs. He was a World War II veteran of the Army and served in the European Theater of Operations. He thoroughly enjoyed his job as a motor inspector for United States Steel, and he liked to work in his garden. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan. Calling hours with the family will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the SCHLEIFER FUNERAL CHAPEL INC., 412-271-1361, formerly the Ronald V. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 534 Jones Ave. at Bell Ave., North Braddock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday by Father Miroslaus J. Wojcicki, in Holy Cross Parish, St. Helen Worship Site. Burial with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Braddock Hills.
