My grandparent's are from Ukraine. From what I understand my grandmother is from a village named (phonetically) Koomandoo which isn't near Kiev, but it's about 100 miles southeast of Lvov (Lemburg). Grandmother's name is Natalie. She married Nicholas Tkach, also from Ukraine, but i'm not sure where (they met and married in Scranton, PA). Natalie arrived in the US around 1917 (I think) with her 2 sisters. I have a little more information and am interested in sharing.

I am not sure as for the exact spelling but from what I was told it was Tkatch, My Grandfather Moshe(Morris) was married previously in UK before he came here. I am still trying to work on what Ship/and date he arrived. Cannot find anything as yet, not all records have been posted from Ellis Island online yet. I know he had a son, who was brought here in 1920 by my grandfathers new wife here, His Name was Max. I know her name was Rose Keveles Her parents were Furriers in Europe and wealthy during that time. and still continued the furrier business here in NY, I have spoken to a few here, cousins, but not anyone older that maybe 40-50yrs, She had a sister Yedda or Yetta who married a Berman, and the other last name, Semelstein, there are a few other names that keep popping up, but at this time I cannot think of them. any shared information that I can provide will be appreciated thank you Franklin Katz

Re: looking for ancestors also Tkatch/Tkac,
Hello,
I am also looking for relatives with Tkac, which I just found out is the masculine, and Tkaczowa, which is the femine. I am looking for my mother's mother Lydia Tkaczowa born in Lemberg, in either Poland or Ukraine, June 7, 1922. I would like to know if there are any living relatives. Lydia Tkaczowa was last seen in Judenburg, Austria, June 1948.

My Grandfather came here alone from there, and his name was Moshe, or Moishe Tkach,or Tkatch, Tkacs I am not exactly sure. I think since he was born in between 1886 & 1890 he did not get here until he was around 20 years old??? I know he had a son named Max who was brought here by my Grandmother in 1920-21. even thought he was not divorced from his frist wife who was still in UK. Even then he was a playboy because when my grandmother Rose (Keveles) passed away in "46 he married another I think he changed it to Morris and Tkach was changed to Katz before he got on the boat to come here. According to my Aunt who is the last one still alive he lived somewhere around Kiev.I don;t even know if the town still exists or was incorported into the city of Kiev. From what I understand it began with a T. maybe if your grandparents are still alive we both might benefit, I know he had a couple of brothers and i think one sister. but have no idea what there names are. if any.
I have tried to find all the information I can from the Ellis Island.org. and also on the census for Brooklyn but cannot find anything on him. Either that or I am looking in the wrong place. Since the last name Katz is common is Brooklyn then and still is.

My great-grandmother came over from the Ukraine, her name is Natalie, but we are not sure if she changed it. She came over with two other people (friends, could be family, we're not sure). She came in through Ellis Island at about age 18. We also do not know her maiden name. She met my great-grandfather also came over from the Ukraine, we think he may have come through canada. His name is Nicholas Tkach. From what my grandmother was told, Tkach is a shortened version. They married in Scranton, Pa, and had some kids. ( 4 or 5 i think) My grandfather is Steven Tkach, their youngest child. Sadly I can't get any info from him because he died 6 years ago. I am thinking from your informaion, and what my mother and grandmother have told me, that we may be related. Please reply, we would like to know more. Thank you, Erin
