All of your questions will be answered back to the year 900.

Carol, We are closely related. My father was Charles Johnson and his best friend and cousin was "Uncle Bill" (Wilbur), your dad's brother. My GF was Thomas and his brother was
Silas. "Big Ole" Olsen is burried in the Moran Prairie Cementary, next to Paul, one of his sons'. "Big Ole" was a fisherman and master mason. He helped build the foundation for the "Flour Mill" in Spokane and the rock walls that run up the South Hill to Manito Park. It's been several years since I phoned Uncle Bill and Aunt Artis in Springfield, Oregon. He has lot's of history on our tree.

Judy, Your GGF was "Little Ole Olsen. He was the missionary and moved to Mt. Vernon, South Dakota when "Big Ole" and his brother Andrew moved to Spokane. The fourth brother, Abraham, moved to Vashon Island, WA, where there is still a bed and breakfast named "Tjomsland's B & D".

Victoria, I'm not sure where you fit in. Try the above web-site. I don't recognize any of the names you mentioned.

Daryl, I am reasonably sure your GGF would have been "Little Ole".

Anita, "Big Ole" was the oldest of the four, born in 1833. "Little Ole" was born in Eiken, Norway March 14, 1836. Andrew was born in 1841 and Abraham was born in Nord Audonal Parish, Norway in 1852. I seems it was my GGF, "Big Ole", that changed his name to Johnson. Uncle Bill (Wilbur) related the story of "Big Ole" and Andrew getting into a fight and he was so angry that he changed his last name.

Best of luck and keep in touch.

Hi Richard,

My great great great (not sure how many greats) grandfather was big Ole Tjomsland/Johnson. I am sure we are related. My great grandfather’s name is Wilbur Silas Johnson and he is still alive in Oregon- 96 I think? Artis has passed a while back. I’m sure this is the same Wilbur you mentioned in the message I found on Ancestry.com.
My grandmother Loretta Johnson has done a whole lot of genealogical work for this side of the family and has found some pretty amazing stories about Ole and his journey to America.

All I know is that when Ole Olsen Tjomsland moved to America in search for gold he first sold his sailboat for the passage money and found enough gold in America to bring some of his siblings to America. I am very curious about his genealogical line before him and where the name Tjomsland comes from and if it means anything. You mentioned that there is a royal line? You also mentioned that the line goes back to 900?! Would you be able to help me get that information? Thanks so much Richard.

Best regards,
Aaron Andrew Johnson
