My great grandfather, Ole Olsen Tjomsland, came from Norway in 1800's with his brother. I have the family tree back to the year 900. The 2 brothers got into a fight and changed their last names to Johnson and Jonsland (?).

Surfing the web I found this site. My grandfather was John Tjomsland Born in 1879 in Ill. Spent most of his years in Blunt SD. Had 5 childern one of who was Thuel Olaf who lived in Spokan. He died in 1968 and was married to Virginia, and a daughter. I was just wondering if this Tjomsland was in your tree. Thank you for any information you might have. Daryl Sorken

My family recently travelled to Lyngdal, Norway and reconnected with several of my mother's father's (Anton Tjomsland) family, including Gabriel Tjomsland, Jakob, Gert and others. Sound familiar at all? I was wondering if your tree stemmed from the same town/family. Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Victoria,

I am in San Diego for a few weeks and will be returning to my home in Arizona then. All of my history is there and will not be able to get back to you until toward the end of the month. I do have specific names and addresses of relatives in Norway.

Daryl,

Sorry I just received your message. When I return to Arizona later this month I will post a reply after reviewing my family tree and phoning my uncle, who also has a great deal of information on our tree.

Hi as you can see my name is Anita Miller (miller84@rushmore.com) I also am a decendent of Ole Olsen Tjomsland, was my GG Granddad. There was 2 brother of the same name that came here in the early 1880. I also have the tree back to 910 and I have contacted a cuz'z (second or third) in WA state also. I still live in SD. I never heard of any fight between the two brother's but then I don't know of any thing beyond the 2 older Ole brothers. But then my cuz'n never sent anything to me beyond my GGGrandad. There is a Tjomsland web site. Please write back. Thank you

I wonder if we are related. My Father is Ralph Johnson and his Father was Silas Johnson. I know at least two brothers came to Spokane, WA in the 1800's one of which was my GGF or GGGF. The name was changed from Tjomsland to Johnson. I know there were several Ole's in the family.

My great grandfather was also ole olsen known a big ole tjomsland. He was a missionary from Norway and he went first to SouthAfrica and later in the l880s to Illinois where my grandfather, Karl Tjomsland was born in Pontiac. He was one of four children and when his mother died young, big ole remarrien and had 8-10 more children. I think his second wife's name was mestad or something like that. My father, Irving Tjomsland is 90 years old and frequently talks about his growning up

HI Judy, thank you for your answer. But the thing is everything sounds like my family but Lil Ole was the missionairy and Big Ole was the oldest brother. My GGgranddad (Joseph Oscar) was the third son born of the first 4 Ole and Anna had. When Anna died he married Ane Mastad. If you are interested I have gathered a lot of the family history of his first marriage and second. There is even a Tjomsland website and the history of the Royality this family started in. If you are interested in it you can e-mail at miller84@rushmore.com. Thank you again and I hope to hear from you.
