calling all Tivnan/Tivenan's
I would love to get in contact with any Tivnan's or Tivenan's that come from the Boyle / Keadue area of Co Romcommon. I am not quite sure about the "e" as I seem to remember as a boy that it used to be spelt without ..... but somehow over the years it got included !!. My fathers name was Thomas, and he had a twin brother James. He had 4 other brothers and 1 half sister. I don't know all their names but I know one was called Peter and one was Domnic. The half sister was Agnes. I think the other brothers were Mick and John. Any information would be greatfully recieved.

Re: calling all Tivnan/Tivenan's
Hello, I am Kathleen Tivnan of central Massachusetts, USA. My grandfather was Leo Tivnan, a first generation American. His parents were Michael and Delia (Tivnan-yes, that was her maiden name although I was always assured that there was no relation) Tivnan who came to America in approximately 1910. My grandfather passed in 1997, however, he kept in contact with all of his Irish relatives, all living in the Geevagh and Boyle areas. I visited Ireland when I was 12 (I am now 35) and met a good many Tivnan's there. I remember Tessie (Tivnan) Hart, who died only a few years ago, Michael Tivnan, a bachelor, who died after coming to America, riding on a snowmobile, and catching pneumonia. They had a sister named Margaret who came to America as a young woman and never returned. There was also another brother, I think named Patrick.
There are a great many Tivnan's in this area of Massachusetts and we are all related in some fashion. Of note is the Tivenan/Tivnan phenomenon. My grandfather has a first cousin, still living in the area, who spells her name Tivenan. She always told us that OUR family changed the name when coming to America because it was confusing for all of the WASPS here to pronounce.
My grandfather made over 12 trips to Ireland to see his relatives and really loved it in his soul. This is all I can remember off the top of my head, but can find out more from my father, also Leo Tivnan.
Best Regards to all of the Tivenan/Tivnan's!
Kathleen Tivnan (I was married in 1994, and unfortunately changed to my husband's name, but welcome this opportunity to use my maiden name!!!!)

Re: calling all Tivnan/Tivenan's
Happy New year to all the Tivnan's/Tivenan's!
My Uncle Robert knows more about the family history than I do but I remember him saying something about the family coming from Slygo? I'm new to researching the family name. But like Kathleen my family lives in the Boston area. Somerville and Medford Massachusetts to be exact. I have run into and have heard of Tivnans in Massachusetts. I know of the Tivnans in the worcester area and know of some in the Salem/Ipswich area. So far none are directly related as far as I know but I will find out when I return to Massachusetts. Currently I am serving in the US Military in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I have been in the Military for 16 yrs. When I retire I plan on going over to Ireland to complete my research. Maybe even live there for awhile. I just finished reading the Book Trinity and know more about the irish history than i ever did. Well Im bouncing around now probably confusing you all. Off I go ...good hunting all.
