I've recently been given a bit of data regardin my family tree and it has inspired some extra research, so I was wondering if anyone had any more flesh for these bones...
My father: Brian Geoffrey Thomas, (b.1931 Reading Berks, d.2010) Married: Marion Moody (b.1936) Children: Geoffrey (b.1962), Helen (b.1965)
Grandfather: Leonard Charles, (b.1892 Bishopstone Wilts, d.1963) Married: Ada Maud Dance Children: Norman, Margaret (d.2010), Brian (1931-2010), all born in Reading. We know that Leonard Charles worked as a baker delivery and was in the 17/21st Lancers and served in France.
Great grandfather: Edmund, (b.1851 Bishopstone Wilts) Married: Millicent (b.1859) (However the 1911 census shows Edmund running a sweetshop/tobacconist from home in Reading and married to Annie, born 1881) Children: Walter (b.1879), Florence (b.1880), John (b.1888), Rupert (b.1891) Interestingly, Walter was born in Reading, but Florence was born a year later in Ashbury, John in Coxwell anmd Rupert back in Ashbury, so they were moving about at that time.
Looking at Googlemaps, Bishopstone is near Swindon, Ashbury and Coxwell on the road north (next village up, ish). Edmund's shift to Reading is still a mystery, although that is where Millicent was born... possibly army? :-)
Great great grandfather: Charles, b.~1818 Bishopstone Wilts Married: Mary (b.1813) - strangely, 1851 census has Mary as being born in Bishopstone, but 1861 and 1871 state Farringdon, which is near Ashbury. Children: Harriet (b.1841), William (b.1844), John (b.1846), Jane (b.1849), Edmund (b.1851), Mary (b.1853), David (b.1856), William (b.1858), Charles (b.1861). All the children were born in Bishopstone. The first William is on the 1851 census, but not the 1861. He may have left home, but as there was another child named William more likely that he died. Harriet also disappears between 1861 and 1871, but possibly got married and moved out of that address as she would have been 20 by the 1861 census. Jane and Mary also vanish between the 1861 and 1871 census, but would have been 22 and 18 respectively by the latter census, so possibly also married and no longer there.
Great great great grandfather: Still being checked, but looks to be either William (m.Susannah) or Thomas (m.Mary), born approx 1796.

Hi Looks as if we have the same great great grandfather Charles. His gravestone is in the bishopstone churchyard. I have baptism dates for those Titchener who were born in Bishopstone. Ashbury, Bishopstone are villages that are on the Oxfordshire/wiltshire border.

Hi Brigitte,
Fascinating stuff. You haven't happened to find out Charles' parents have you? We seem to have either William or Thomas, but I haven't (had time to) found out any evidence of who yet.
With the exceptiopn of Edmunds travelling to and from Reading, the family roots all seem to be around the Bishopstone area. As you say, Ashbury is in the same place, and so are all the other villages mentioned.
Before he died, I am aware he was in contact with another Geoff Titchener, who had done considerable work in tracing the tree back. I am sure dad has an extensive file around here somewhere - still trying to find it!!

I think I have the baptisms of all the titcheners baptised in the church at Bishopstone. So that will show the parents(hopefully) I too have done a considerable amount of work on the Titchener family tree. My mum always seemed to think she was the last of them. I have found my great grandmother grave but have never found my great grandfather but I think he went to the Reading area after her death!! I have found that the Titchener's were watercress farmers and Dog Trainers. Does this ring any bells

Hi
Not sure about that - I know my grandfather was apprenticed to a bakers in Reading, and worked as a delivery boy. That must have been in the early 1900s.

My husband has an "Ivy A D Titchener" in his family (his dads first wife) and were married in Swindon they had a daughter "Julie marie" born in 1960 his dad and Ivy were married in 1959 http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/38995111/person/19313018304 (he re-married in 73) does this ring any bells to anyone.

Ivy A D Titchener (previously Truman) was born 1933 in Swindon, the dau of Lilian Truman. Lilian married my Dad's bro Arthur William Titchener in 1937 and shortly after Ivy's name was changed to Titchener.
Hope this is helpful.

G'day from NZ
My ancestors emigrated to NZ in 1862 (although originally left for Aussie in 1855), but were all born and bred in Bishopstone as far as I can tell.
Elijah was born there in 1828 His father Charles b1795 d1862 His parents were John c1768-1832 and Martha Martin c1772-1819
Any further info on them would be greatly appreciated
Cheers Robbie

G'day Rob,
I have John Titchener, b:10/12/1769, d:11/08/1806 Coleshill, Berks married to Martha Martin, b: ~1772 Bishopstrow (could be Bishopstone - I've seen a lot of transcription errors), Wilts
However, from what I have found so far, John and Martha only had William (1793-1852), who married Susan/Susanah Keen and had four children (Sophia, Edmund, John and Charles, b:1817 Bishopstone. Charles married Mary Ann Beechey and directly links to my great grandfather.
Can't see an Elijah in there, but if you have John/Martha there must be a link somewhere.
