Hello Gillian Firstly, apologies if I've previously contacted you. I am descended from 'Henry' Titchener's son Robert George Millard Titchener who married Louise Twiner in 1880. Their daughter Rebecca Louise was my mum's mother. 'Henry' was not in fact his birth name, it was Leonard John with possibly Henry as a third name which is probably why you, I and several other descendants couldn't find any records for him! His wife was Mary (or possibly Margaret) Millard, hence the middlename for Robert, and she came from Somerset. There have been problems finding the family on some census records as the name is often mistranscribed - one example being 'Fitchener'. I hope this has helped and if you want to know any more please feel free to get in touch. Mim x

Dear Mim,
Rebecca Ann Titchener is my ggggrandmother. She has been very illusive. She was born c1843 and married a David/Daniel McCleod. They lived in Westminster, 160 Tachbrook St. London. Children, Henry, Daisy and Florence.
I've left all this alone for awhile now and can't remember how I made the connection to Henry (AKA Leonard. will go back to my notes

Hi Carran, Sorry it took so long to post reply, but I don't do this very often any more. I think I been in contact with you before on brithish geneology forums. I do have some new info for you. Henry's real name was Leonard, Henry was possibly a second or third name. You will find him listed on the 1851 census as Leonard Fitchener, with his wife, Margaret (maybe born Mary Ann Millard) and children, Leonard Eleanor Emma Elizabeth John Rebecca, my ggggrandmother Henry Robert.

Hi Gillian
Yes we have been in conatact before, a while ago now. I found the Titchener's on the 1851 Census mistrancribed as Fitchener. They have now also been found on the 1841 census. An extremely clever person on another forum found them. They had been trancribed as Hatchener on one list and Hutchinson on another! No wonder I couldnt find them anywhere.
I have found death records for some of the children in the 1850's. I have also recently received Henry's Death Certificate which says he died of Brohchitis Senilis at age 78 years on 14th November 1878. His name is listed as Leonard John Titchener. Unfortunately it does not say where he was born. I have also found a marriage entry on pallots index which has been wrongly transcribed as the marriage taking place in Raddington, Somerset. It was actually in St Mary's, Paddington.
I have still not been able to find out where in Berkshire he came from and seem to have hit a brick wall. Do you have any ideas?
Hope to hear from you. Carran

Hi Gillian Further to my previous reply to you, Mary Ann Millard was NOT from Raddington in Somerset. Thanks to yet another transcription error, the marriage entry should have read St. Mary's Church PADDINGTON not Raddington. Hope earlier misinformation didn't throw you too far off the scent. I have been in touch with another descendant of Leonard Henry, via his daughter Rebecca Ann who was married to Daniel McLeod. This Rebecca was my great grandfather Robert's sister. Hope you had a good Christmas, look forward to hearing from you. Mim Nash

Hi Carran
Are you still trying to find out about the Titchener family. I am related to Leonards/Henry's daughter emma, she married an owen cunnningham in 1854. Have tried going forward from 1851 but cannot find any of the others on the census records. You say you have death certificates for some of the children, could you let me know which ones.
You say that Robert had the name Millard, did they start using the mothers name?
Look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Kathryn
Sorry I havent replied earlier, but I have only just found this post. I havent been doing much research for the last couple of months.
I've actually found out a bit about the Titchener's. However, I have Emma as being 'Married' (cant find an entry tho) to Charles Kates. He was previously married to Rebecca Lofts. He was about 37 years older than Emma. He and his wife Becca were living in the same street as Leonard and family in 1851, Leonard's wife Mary Millard died in 1865. I havent been able to find Leonard on the 1861 census. However, Emma and Charles are together with her younger brother William. They had 5 children between 1858 and 1870. Charles died in 1869, whilst Emma was pregnant.
I have found the marriage entry you referred to, and it states that Emma is a minor. But no father entered. Odd, especially after banns. They are both living in Bread St, but this is the first I have heard of this marriage. Do you have a death for Owen? Were there any children? Could Emma have left him and that is why she was with Charles Kates but not married to him. Not sure about any of this, just maybe's.
How are you descended from her?
I will do some more digging to see what I come up with. Look forward to hearing from you.
