Hello Melba, I know you wrote this message over 12 years ago, but I have information. In 1567 five 5 spaniards from Extremadura, Espana shipwrecked off the coasts of Sinaloa founded Aguacaliente de Garate; amongst them were marquez Don Juan Jose Garate, Don Jose Gabriel Valdez, Don Antonio Maria Lizarraga, Osuna and Tirado. In 1591 Don Juan Pastor Guerra arrived from Guadalajara, Espana to Potrerillos, Sin. My grandmother Maria Teresa Guerra Valdez was from Potrerillos; her father was Ignaciao Guerra Lizarraga b. 1862 and mother was Domitila Valdez Guerra b. 1875. Somewhere down the line I'm sure we're related. Hope you find this interesting.

I find this information very interesting. Can you cite a
source where I might find more information on these
Spaniards from Extremadura, Espana.
Thanks for any leads.

Hi Martha, I asked my mother where she had gotten this information which was given to us at a family reunion with my lineage going back six generations. My grandmother, Maria Teresa Guerra Valdez, daughter of Ignacio Guerra Lizarraga 1862-1948, handed down this information. My lineage did show Valdez, Lizarraga and Garate, three of the five spaniards' surnames, and Osuna and Tirado were not. My mother did live in Mazatlan as a child and does have a living friend, a Tirado, from Mazatlan.

I know this post was from many years ago, but I hope you or someone will respond. You said your father was jose. Did he have a sister named rosa? She was my grandmother, and died when I was 5. I'm hoping to get more info about her life. Thanks.
