I see a flurry of Tippe activity, the following might be useful to some. I am descendent of Wilhelm Tippe, a Hessian mercenary who fought in the American Revolution (British side), was captured at Saratoga, escaped the convention army in 1777 and eventually came to Upper Canada (Ontario) in 1790 with an German-American bride. He was born in Trautenstein (Harz Mtns in former East Germany, nr Nordhausen) in 1757. I'm guessing there were likely more Tippes from the area. In Upper Canada the name was changed to Tipp. He had two, possibly three sons. Lookingj for any pieces to the puzzle. Will possibly get to Trautenstein this summer regards james elliott hamilton, ontario

I also am a descendant. Wilhelm married Catharine and was awarded land in Canada. He had 3 sons I am aware of. William, Daniel, and John. William Christian Tipp was the father of Nancy, Alexander, John, and William. Nancy (b) 1832 in Markham, Ontario married Robert Oliver (b) 1829 Gorran, Cornwall of Brock Township in 1852. They had 10 children, including my ggf, John Oliver (b) 1860. There are numerous Tipp's buried in Pinedale cemetery near Sunderland, ON.

Hello James! It's been a while since we last corresponded. Did you get to Trautenstein? I've found where Wilhelm got his land grant. I also have a photo of his tombstone. If any of this is new to you, I can send it to you.

Hello David, I am also a descendant of Wilhelm Tippe. He eluded me for many years because of his German name. I thought he was a Pennsylvanian "Dutch" German. My grandmother was Charlotte Almena Tipp who descended also from the Orser family, UELs from New York who settled in Kingston as Associated Loyalists. I know very little about him but what I read in these ancestry.com messages. Any information you could forward to me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I would love to have a photo of his tombstone. Where is he buried?
