Jane TIPLADY Kirk Merrington
My 5 x great grandmother was Jane TIPLADY chr. 15 Sept. 1741 in Kirk Merrington, Durham. daughter of Thomas TIPLADY and Jane WOOD. (Thomas and Jane WOOD were married 12 Nov 1734)
Jane's siblings were: Anne chr 1732 Kirk Merrington Margaret chr. 1737 ditto Martha chr. 1740 ditto John chr. 1744 ditto Hannah chr. 1747 ditto
Jane TIPLADY was married three times. First to Thomas SMITH on 30 Nov 1763 Kirk Merrington, second husband was Peter DITCHBURN (my 5xgr.grandfather) on 15 Feb 1770 Kelloe, and thirdly to Anthony JOHNSON on 9 April 1774 Kirk Merrington.
Children with Thomas SMITH Thomas chr.1764 in Sedgefield Magdalene chr.1766 ditto Jane chr. 1768 ditto Eleanor chr. 1768 ditto
Children with Peter DITCHBURN Ann b. 1770 Kelloe Peter Hodgson chr. 1772 Bishops Middleham Ann DITCHBURN married William JOPLIN and had five known children. Peter Hodgson DITCHBURN married Catherine WALTON and had 7 known children. (I have most of the DITCHBURN descendents and many of the ancestors as this is the line I descend from)
Children with Anthony JOHNSON Maria b. 1780 Kirk Merrington.
Jane's sister Margaret married John GARTHWAIT(E) and had two know children Thomas GARTHWAIT and Jane GARTHWAITE. Jane GARTHWAIT married John WETHERALL 26 Dec 1792 Kirk Merrington.
Martha TIPLADY married Matthew LOW 10 Dec 1759
If anyone is connected to these lines I would love to hear from you.
I came across a burial entry for a Tiplady GARTHWAITE and his wife and son. I feel sure they must be related to Margaret nee TIPLADY and John GARTHWAIT(E). He was born in 1773. Saint Michael's Churchyard, Bishop Middleham, Durham. Garthwaite, Tiplady, d. 5 Nov 1858, age: 85yr, h/o Mary, [DO] born 1773 Garthwaite, Jacob, d. 5 Apr 1827, age: 16yr, s/o Tiplady and Mary, [DO] Garthwaite, Mary, d. 31 Dec 1837, age: 64yr, w/o Tiplady, [DO]
Has anyone come across Tiplady GARTHWAITE's birth or christening?
Looking forward to lots of responses!

Re: Jane TIPLADY Kirk Merrington
I have just found your information on google and am thrilled to have some connection to you and to discover so much about Jane Tiplady. I,too,am descended from Peter Ditchburn. Peter's grandson, Luke had a daughter, Elizabeth Mary who had a daughter Elizabeth Mary Jenkin who married my Grandfather, William Hugh Clarke so we are cousins of some description. Do you have any further information about Jane's parents? I seem to be stuck at that point and would like to research further the Tiplady name as it is so unusual. Also I am interested in how much inforation you have about the Ditchburn line. Looking forward to hearing from you Beryl Clarke (Australia)

Re: Jane TIPLADY Kirk Merrington
Hello, I've just read your message, posted this year, about Jane Tiplady, b Kirk Merrington 1741. She was my 4x great grandmother, via her son Peter Ditchburn 1771 -1847. You may be interested to know that she had a sister called Margaret Tiplady, who married a John Garthwaite and had a son "Tiplady Garthwaite". He was a witness at the wedding of Peter Ditchburn, and it was his very unusual name which helped me to sort out this bit of the family tree! You're right that such an unusual name is a great asset to research! K Haworth

Re: Jane TIPLADY Kirk Merrington
She is also my 5 x great grandmother and wondering if you have any information on Thomas and Jane Wood. I have the same info on the marriage but see one child born before 1734 so was Anne born 1732 from the marriage to Smith. Do you know birth or christening and death dates for Thomas and Jane?
