Hello - my mothers maiden name was Tiplady. According to her she had done some research on the name and it alleges to derive from Tipaldi. Apparently there was an Italian Count Tipaldi in the 14th century (though I can't find anything to prove this), and he was banished from the country for horse rustling or something.

Also, apparently in Italian Fitti means the son of, so the racing driver Fittipaldi's name allegedly means son of Tipaldi. My mother's family were all raven haired and olived skinned so could she could well have ancestors from Italy and you never know, we could have blue blood in our veins. Hope this helps. Jackie
