Children of Silas Tinker (1748 - 1840?) Ohio

Need an appropiately sourced list of the children of Silas and Lois (Wade) Tinker, who came to Ashtabula County, Ohio about 1806. An 1889 booklet, The Ancestry of Silas Tinker does not list children. The 1966 Ancestors and Descendants of Kenneth J. Tinker lists 11 children without dates or sources. The 1985 Ashtabula County History has another list with very few duplications and of course no sources. No probate record has been found that might list children.

William W.TINKER, born February 1855, AL

I am doing research for a family friend for her parents Christmas gift. I have run into a brick wall as to who William's parents were. I know the following from censuses and family lore:
William W. Tinker, born February 1855, AL. Died sometime after 1920 Census.
Married 1) Nancy Jane Johnson, b. 1853 in AL. They were married on 5 January 1879, Jackson County, AL. They had:
1. George H. Tinker, born February 1880 and died 16 May 1956 in Etowah, AL. He married Francis L. ?. They had Lucy b. 1903, Henderson b 1906, Minnie, b. 1907 and Vira b. 1907.
2. Nellie M., born 1884 or 1886, in AL. She married William L. Martin, b. 1881 in Georgia. They had Zuma, Seattle, William J., Dell Lee and Frank Jack.
3. William J. Tinker, b. November 1887, AL.
4. Minnie Lee Tinker, b 23 March 1888. She married Walter F. Lanthripp. She died 3 September 1928 in Alabama City, Etowah, AL.

William W. Tinker married 2nd. Jenarie E. Saratt, Jackson County, AL in 1895.

NOTE: This means that Nancy Jane Johnson Tinker died sometime after 1888 and before 1895.

He is listed in the 1880 Census, Jackson County, AL; 1900 Alabama City, Etowah, AL; 1910, Alabama Ward 3, Etowah, AL, and 1920 Stafford, Cherokee, AL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I originally thought Emily was the daughter of Harrison Tinker and Mary Turnbow of Crawford County, MO, but I guess not. I am still convinced there is a close relationship between the families, though. Anyone with info on either of these families, please contact me.

MORTIER/MORTER married to a TINKER?

Hello: There is rumor in my family, the MORTERs that we are descendant from an Admiral Mortier from France, who fled the Huguenot persecutions between 1650-1750 from a Chateau on the banks of the Oise or the Loire, to relatives in Norfolk; in particular, Beccles. He supposely was helped to escape by an Admiral Tinker and his family. The story went on, that a son, by now Morter, married a daughter of this Tinker family and created the Morter line in England. Nice story, but I have never have been able to proof. Would you have suggestions as where I might look?

Mary Agnes TINKER (TINCKER),b. 1831 Ellsworth, Maine; JELLISON, MILLIKEN

I am searching for information about Mary Agnes Tinker (Tincker). She was a 19th century writer born in Ellsworth, Maine in 1831 to Richard and Mehetable Jellison Tinker. She died in Dorchester/Boston, Massachusetts, and I think she was living with her sister's family then: Charlotte Jellison Tinker Milliken. Any information about Mary Agnes or Charlotte would be extremely helpful -- especially family photographs, personal papers or journals. I have found a lot of information about the Richard Tinker family from Ellsworth, Maine and would love to share it.

William Tinker born abt 1770 lived 1830 Monroe Co. TN

On the 1830 census for Monroe County, Tennessee there is a William Tinker listed on page 143/116. This William is a man of age 50 to 60 with a wife of the same age and they have three sons in the home. One is a boy of age 15 to 20 and two are ages 20 to 30. I believe that this William Tinker was probably the father of my Jesse Tinker who married Margaret (McArthur?) about 1833 in Tennessee. The reason I think this is because Henry, Isaac and Abraham Whittenburg all live very near to William Tinker and Isaac has a woman of Margaret's age in the home. Margaret Tinker continues to live next door to Isaac Whittenburg in 1840 in Pulaski County, MO and in 1850 in Webster County, Missouri and in 1850 one of Margaret and Jesse's daughters lives with Isaac and his wife. I also believe that this William Tinker may have been a brother to the Abraham Tinker of about the same age who lived in Greasy Cove, TN. Any help with this family would be so greatly appreciated!!

George M. Tinker aka Francis Sealey – Gaston and Barcume

I am a descendant of George M. Tinker. George married Olive Barcume in Wisconsin. He served in the Civil War. Documentation of George ends with his desertion from his unit during the Civil War. When researching Civil War records I found that Francis Sealey, in his Civil War pension application, states that he is George M. Tinker – that George M. Tinker was his alias. Francis/George states in his pension application that he was born in NY and moved from Wisconsin to Iowa and then to Covert, Kansas. I am looking for a photo of George Tinker, aka Francis Sealey, as the family doesn't have one. Olive divorced George in the 1860's. I have not been able to find either George Tinker of Francis Sealey in the 1860 census. George drops off the face of the earth following his desertion. Francis/George married Mary Ann Gaston in Iowa in 1866. They had multiple children when they lived in Iowa. They didn’t move to Kansas until 1876/1879 timeframe. The date varies in documentation. However, I can’t find Francis/George in the 1870 census. Since it appears that Francis and George are the same person, I am trying to confirm that fact for both families.

Tinker family castle on the banks of the River Tyne?

According to an account from 1890, the Tinker family name is derived from the River Tyne, "on the banks of which stands a
castle which has been in the Tinker family since the fourteenth century." Now, I know that Robert Tinker, whose family line is linked below, lived in Berkshire in the 1600s. Does anyone know anything about this castle, or where it might be located? Thanks.

<a href="http://uk.geocities.com/genealogy2@btinternet.com/Line01-p/ld1.htm" target="_blank">http://uk.geocities.com/genealogy2@btinternet.com/Line01-p/l...

3 Tinker Children: 1870 census: Indiana, Switzerland County, Cotton Township

In the 1870 census for Cotton Township, Switzerland County, Indiana, there are three minor children living in the Stephen & Margaret Tinker Household. I believe these are not children of Stephen & Margaret, but possibly grandchildren. The census info is summarized below:

1870 Census: Indiana, Switzerland County, Cotton Twp, Page 7, Dwelling/Family #48
Line
19 Tinker, Stephen, 61, Male, White, Farmer, Connecticut
20 , Margaret, 68, Female, White, Keeping House, Ohio
21 , Clarra, 17, Female, White, Indiana
22 , James E, 15, Male, White, Indiana
23 , Reson B, 9, Male, White, Indiana

Does anyone know for sure who the parents of these three children are? I suspect their father may be James Tinker (born 1830, died at Andersonville prison camp during Civil War). James was the half-brother of Stephen Tinker, their father being also named Stephen Tinker (born about 1788 in Connecticut; died probably between 1860 & 1870 in Switzerland County, Indiana).

I can find no record of the three children in the 1880 census.

The girl, Clara "Cass" Tinker would later mary Henry S Pavy (1850-1924, son of Samuel Pavy & Julia Moulton) in Switzerland County on 11 February 1883. I do not know what happened to the two boys.

Any additional information is greatly appreciated.

Bryan Murphy
e-mail: MurphyBR@prodigy.net
Some of the Tinkers and a lot of the Aldrich families moved to
Chenango and Steuben Cos. New York. My Emeline Aldrich, born 1826,daughter of Esek Aldrich married a man by the name of ____Tinker. I have a photo of Esek's farm and on the back of it, it states ( from my father's great Aunt) "This is the home where Ma was raised after her father died in the swamp, I saw the swamp he is buried in". Anner Emeline born
1842/3 is shown as Anner Tinker in the 1855 NY, Steuben Co.
NY census as a domestic in the house of Charles Smith. She married Daniel Templeton Aug.10,1862,Mansfield, Pa. and moved to Saginaw,Michigan. Nothing further as to who her father was. Help! Please!

TINKER in South Dakota, 1920

I am looking for information on the surname Tinker in South Dakota. This surname shows up on Western Union call list of persons who were called when my Great, great grandmother died in August of 1920....I don't know if the Tinker is a relation or not. My great great grandmother, Sarah Jane Williams had 6 daughters, Sarah, Martha, Nellie, Nettie, Dora and Bessie Williams. My great great grandmothers maiden name was, Winterringer. It could have been that one of her daughters married this Mr. Tinker who lived in Yankton South Dakota in 1920.

From Louis Burn's book his 7th generation Tinkers were born in Oneida, NY until 1815, Then they were born in Mantua, Portage, OH. The 8th gen.were born in Kansas in 1840. Starting in 1848 siblings were born at the Osage Mission, Dorn KS. Lela Tinker born 1909 married Harold E. Cub Little Bear in 1929. This was the first inter-marriage that I found. A Maud Tinker married Hayes Little Bear. This could be the beginning of the Indian- Tinker families.

Can someone tell me how to find out about my relative Keith Tinker who was Treasurer of the Cleveland, OH, Chapter until death in 1973? Who would have information? His daughter told me this but she did not have a copy of his papers. How can I find out if he searched the Tinker line? Thanks so much in advance for any help. Ruth Tinker Smith

As far as I & a number of others have been able to determine, the Tinker that came on the Mayflower along with his wife & only child died in the epidemic of 1621. There are no Mayflower descendents from him. The dozen or so people I am in touch with are descended from a John Tinker who came over in 1630

I have in my possession a beautiful bible (1873) belonging to the LEONARD TINKER family. He was born in 1816 the son of Elijah and Elizabeth Comstock. Other surnames are DUNKLEE and BARKER. Marriages, births & deaths. I would be happy to send it to a descendant of Leonard for postage and proof of lineage. It is not from my line.

Rose Gertrude Tinker or Samuel Hertford Tinker

The above two were the children of William Henry Tinker - born in Whitkirk, Yorkshire, around 1825 - and Mary Ann Hughes. Rose Gertrude was born around 1872, and Samuel around 1879. They all spent their early years in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

There was an older girl, Minnie, and a younger one, Ida Beatrice. I know the history (more or less) pertaining to Minnie and Ida as I am descended from Minnie and Ida lived not too far from her.

My family were never aware of Rose and Samuel. I have details from the 1871, '81 and '91 IGI-logged Census returns and from the IGI records I noticed that Rose married in 1996. Is there any Tinker descendant who could enlighten me as to their survival and/or put me in touch with their descendents?

Many thanks
Wendy
