Sherry,
I too, am looking for Tinkers in both my family and my husbands. I am interested in Henrys' children. My husbands grandfather was Henry Wellington Tinker Jr. b.? Lubec. I am thinking that Henry Jr. may have been a son of your Henry. Any info would be appreciated.

Hi. I'm Gertrude's granddaughter. She married Clare Tinker of Bedford, OH, and moved to Cleveland within several years after the turn of the century. They had one son, my father, Keith Donald Tinker. If you would like more information, email me.

I can't remember what I put in the original message, so I'll bore you by telling you again. My grandfather was William Frederick Straley (also spelled it Straehle). He was born in Akron, OH, on Dec. 23, 1871. His father's name was Henry and his mother's maiden name was Krauss. I don't have her first name at this point. (My Great-grandfather served in the Civil War for a time in a Union Infantry Unit. His name is listed among others on one of the walls in the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument on Public Sq. in Cleveland, OH.) Grandfather Wm. had two sisters that I know of: Gertrude Straley Tinker and Anne Straley Thibedault. (I don't have the correct spelling in front of me of Anne's name.) I also believe he had a brother, Henry. He married a Cassie Eva Briggs and had four children: Frank, Grace, Jean (my mother, who changed the spelling of her name to Jeanne as a young woman), and Mildred. Cassie died in May of 1914. Grandfather remarried somewhere between 1915 and 1917 to Emma Barnes.

My grandfather became an apprentice at a very young age to bring money into the family. Great-Grandfather Henry was killed by a runaway horse, according to my aunt. Who is almost 86 and no longer has a terrific memory. He moved to Cleveland later. He was the founder and owner of Straehle Machine Products on the west side of Cleveland. My aunt, Grace Straehle Balyeat took over from him after my Grandfather retired.

Please e-mail me at: chuckm@xtn.net

I don't have the first name of Gertrude's husband, her birth date or anything else at this time. I think there's a possibility, tho, that we could be connected. I've not heard of many Gertrude Tinker's, have you? Let me know what other info. you might have, or if any of my info. rings a bell with you or anyone else in your family. Then we can put our heads together. Thanks so much for answering.

Sincerely,

Bobbie
I apologize at not having all the info. in front of me; I just went into my e-mail and there was your note. I wanted to answer it promptly.

Somehow I evidently didn't get an e-mail to you. There was no e-mail address marked in your message about your grandmother, Gertrude Straley Tinker. I really think there's a connection here. That your grandmother and my grandfather, William Frederick Straley, were brother and sister. Or at least it would appear that way. Please, please answer so we can reconnect. My e-mail address is: chuckm@xtn.net
Thanks!!

I hope you are still willing to help after your posting of nearly 4 years ago...hopefully you have the same contact information. I am from a line that is from Worthington, Mass. Elihu Tinker, supposedly the son of John Tinker and Abigail Wood (still verifying) and brother to Nehemiah Tinker, Captain. Elihu's son, Elisha Tinker migrated to Ohio between 1800 and 1810 as I have records of him in 1800 in Massachusetts and in 1810 he's in Ohio. His first stop was in Muskigum County (1810 census) but 1820 and 1830 census have him in his final resting place of Perry County, Ohio. His eldest son, Charles Spaulding Tinker migrated to Athens County, Ohio, and married Almira, pioneering Fuller family of Athens County. Their son, Austin Henry Tinker also married into the Fuller family, and their son, Walter Fuller Tinker and his son, Walter Howard Tinker were all Ross County Ohioans. Does any of this ring a bell? If you have access to anything on parentage of Elihu Tinker and his link to Massachusetts/Connecticut Tinkers, I would be most appreciative as there seems to be a breakdown when I get to his parents and try to move on...Thanks
