Tincher's of Fayette County, WV

Surnames: Tincher-Smith
My paternal grandfather was James Albert Tincher born 11 June 1868, or possibly 1862. He was married to Octavia Smith, daughter of Andrew Smith, son of Jacob Smith, son of Christian Smith. James Albert died 10 December, 1951 and Octavia died 23 April 1965 (they both died in Williamson, WV.)
I have more info, but as yet have not been able to make any connection to any other Tincher's. I have James Albert's dad as Brud Tincher ( I believe Brud is a mispelling due to dialect or a nickname) and his mom as Beth Barney.

Anyone that can help me, please do so. I am new to this genealogy research and a novice at using e-mail etc.

Thanks Andy,
The James and Octavia are my paternal grandparents.

Where could I get a copy of Larry Shuck's list?

Could be more info on Shuck's list that could benefit my research.

Anything else you come up with would be appreciated.

Thanks again.
Dave.

My aunt has a copy of "The Tincher Tribe" book. I am going to try to borrow it in a few days. My great grandmother was a Tincher. here father was Kenneth Tincher. I will look in the book to see if I can find anything.

Are you sure his parents were Bill Tincher and Beth Berry? There was a James Albert "Bill" Tincher and Elizabeth Berry who were married in Fayette Co., WV at that time.

I have not researched this line for quite a while, but I believe this is what I remember about them. James "Albert" Tincher was the son of Brud Tincher and Beth Barney. The James "Albert" Tincher David of which David was referring married Octavia Smith. Octavia was the daughter of Isabella Tincher and Andrew Smith. Isabella Tincher was the daughter of James Tincher and Annie Miller. It is a very confusing line because of the numerous times James is used and the nicknames used by the family. I do have a good bit of info on this line. Isabella Tincher was my great grandmother. I will check my file in a bit and make sure the info I have given you is correct about James "Albert" Tincher.

I typed in the name Brud Tincher on google and found nothing. However i did find a Harrison Adkins who was nicknamed Brud. He married Margaret Tincher October 07, 1867 in Fayette Co., WV. Margaret had a sister named Elizabeth "Beth" Tincher who married John Barney/Bonnie July 22, 1886 in Fayette.

Is it possible that Brud Adkins and Beth Tincher Barney had a child out of wedlock before she married John Barney/Bonnie, thus afterwards her being called Beth Barney. Then Brud Adkins must have married her sister Margaret. Do you have an obit for James Albert tincher?

I do not have an obit for James Albert Tincher. He died in 1951 in Williamson, Mingo County, WV. I have had a long day and can't seem to concentrate very well. With the information you have given me, I may be able to make the connections for you. My great grandmother was Isabella Tincher, Margaret's sister. Let me check a few things tomorrow or Saturday and I will let you know.
