Hi Lois. My maternal grandmother's name was Annie/Nan Tinch and lived in New Ross, Co. Wexford, Ireland. New Ross was and is a major sea port. According to my investigations, a sailor jumped ship in New Ross. David L. Tinch is (or at least was) the chief librarian in Kirkwall, Orkney Islands. The name Tinch is a corruption of the Swedish name Tainsh. I do have a more detailed history of the Irish Tinch's but I guess you are more interested in the American branch. Hope this helps! Jim
