TINCH in & around Coles Co. IL
Don’t have much evidence (I’ll list what I have later) but here’s what I think. It’s very possible that I may have skipped a generation between George/Mary & some of the kids. I know that Henry Franklin went to IL & Allen & Anderson may have (if they even existed). Possible skipped generation may have gone there too.

I don't know if its the same person but my great grandfathers Mother was Clarissa Hurst. She was Married to Thomas Jefferson Wilson. My great grandfather was born in 1839. If you want more info please contact me at Larboomer@aol.com

Larry, I tried to e-mail this to you but it came back undeliverable with the address you listed - so I'll just post it here.
I do not know much about her except that she was the youngest of 17 children born to Jeremiah and Priscilla Hurst and was sister of my great great grandfather, Simeon, who was close to 30 years her senior. She was born in 1844 - listed as 6 on 1850 census & as 15 on 1860. She was born in Morgan County, Tennessee and moved to Fentress County (next county) probably in 1859 or 60, after both her parents died. She lived there with her sister Charity (Hurst) Tinch & husband Henry Franklin Tinch. By 1870 Henry & Charity & their kids were in Matoon, Coles County, Illinois but I have not been able to locate Clarissa. I thought she might have gone to Illinois with them or, more likely, got married and stayed in Tennessee. If this sounds like a match, I'd like to compare notes. I have a lot on her parents and siblings and their descendants.

would like anything you have about my great great grandmother. my father was denton lee tinch, mom is jeane (kennedy) tinch. i think granny passed away around 58-9.

I have not run across a Nancy Ada Tinch but would be happy to try to help you find her - I like "detective work". First I'd need some more detail: I guess she was married to a Tinch, rather than that being her maiden name and died in 1858 (or did you mean 1958?). Who was her husband? Where did they live? What were names of any children that you know of? With some of this info, I might be able to find something on her. Regards Ernie

thank you for your reply. spoke with mom this am in morgan co., she says granny died in 1961 or 62. ivan tinch is the only child i can think of, my grandfather. have you ever seen the name Tynche in any of the earlier records ?, this was probably the english spelling.... i also found a list of tax records for prince george co. virginia, 1790 with a list of tinch taxpayers. later. oh, granny lived near "tinchtown", in fentress co.

Found an Ivan on SSDI, 9 Mar 1912 to 15 Mar 1993, maybe w/wife named Nova?, still living in 2001. I'm sure I could find on 1920 census & then work back from there. Problem is, 1920 has no index on Ancestry images - you'd have to go to NARA branch & use soundex. Your best bet would to post detailed message with everything you know or can find out on Fentress, Morgan, etc. boards both here & on GENFORUM and on fentressco.com. I'm sure there's somebody out there that has knowledge of your folks. My only connection was with Henry & Charity (Hurst) Tinch & they ended up in Illinois 130 years ago.

I guess folks at Ancestry.com read my mind. An index now exists for 1920 TN census & heres info on your people(I thinK)
street - Allardt & Banner Springs, farm, dwelling #-174, family #-177, Tinch, William H, owns home free & clear, male, white, age 35, married, can read & write, b: TN, parents b: TN, , farmer, general farm.
Ada, wife, female, white, 34, married, can read/write, b: TN, parents b: TN.

Ivan, son, male, white, 7, single, attended school within year, can read/write, b: TN, parents b: TN.
On one side of them lives Jackson R. & Sarah A. Tinch, age 71 & 70, probably parents and on other side is Anderson G. & Abbie Tinch, 39 & 41 w/4 kids, maybe brother.
This doesn't tell you everything you ever wanted to know, but it's a starting place. You might get more about both by writing off for their death certificates.

Re: TINCH in & around Coles Co. IL
Frentress Co. doesn't appear to be very far from Knoxville, Knox Co. I am working on a TINCH & DOW family line.
Alexander TINCH md 1 Jun 1864 in Knoxville, TN to a 'Mary Martha Ann JONES' (no birthdates listed)
Their dau Reinetta "Nettie" TINCH (b 23 Feb 1873) md Henry L. DOW 14 Dec 1892 Coles Co., Illinois.
I'm hoping that Alexander might be the 'mystery man' in the afore-mentiooned article.
These people are the end of the line ancestors. Would love to extend back further. Bonnie Campbell-Morris
