Mary Ann, Daisy, Charles, Ezra, George, Isaiah,
Do any of these names exist in your family tree? Did any of your Tinch family have some kind of connection to IL? My family is connected/related to these individuals with the surname of TINCH. They at present represent one of my brick walls. I have next to nothing on them and would so much like to make some progress with them. I would be happy to share what information I do have. Please contact me, if you "know" any of these Tinch family members. Thank-you!

Thank-you for the tip that surname TINCH can be found in Georgia. I am "caucasoid" but understand full well that research into my family history I may one day (no hints yet nor have I discovered any slave owners in my line so far. On a more personal note, I am pleased that none of my ancestors were slave owners!) discover an african american connection, which would not upset me in the least! I will try to follow up on your tip about TINCH in Georgia! Thank-you! Peggy

George of Williamson Co., IL
Thank-you for this information. Do you have a birth date for your ggg grandfather George or a birth date for Mary Ann Tinch? Do you know if Mary Ann ever lived in Clark Co., IL? Did none of the other names in my earlier post "ring any bells"? Here is my brick wall dilemma: (1) My great-grandfather, Sylvester Cox married Anna Chambers in 1894 Coles Co., IL according to marriage application. (2) In 1896 daughter Dona was born in Edgar Co., IL. In 1897 son Joseph was born in Clark Co., IL. On his birth record his mother's full maiden name was listed as Ann TINCH. (3) In 1916 and 1919 when Dona Joseph marry their spouses, each lists mother as Anna TINCH and both parents as dead. (4) On the 1900 census they are listed with their two known children and Mary Ann is listed as born in IL, as were her parents. This is the first time I've seen her listed as Mary. So I am trying to unravel, just who was my grandfather's mother, Anna CHAMBERS or Mary Ann TINCH? Only when I can figure this out can I then begin to research her family. It is so frustrating. Based on bits hints of family oral history; Sylvester wife were gone by the time my grandfather was 7 years old. I have managed to confirm that Sylvester died in 1904 but can not find out what happened to the mother, Ann/Mary Ann. Courthouse claims there are no probate or orphan records for them, nor can I find an obituary. At least now I know of another location of TINCH families in IL! Thanks, Peggy

Peggy...didn't you and I correspond a couple of years ago regarding your Tinch search? My grandfather was Joseph Dallas Tinch, married Ruth Edwards, father of Joseph Harlan, Max and Carl. I am Joseph Harlan Jr. Joseph Dallas died one day before my birth, April 25, 1946. Joseph Harlan died in 1979. Contact me if I may help with what I know.

Joseph, Sarah, Mary /Anna, Richard, George, Charles, Daisy, Bay areas of TN, IL, IN
J. H., I have only been researching a little over a year. I don't recall corresponding with you before. Your Tinch names are not familiar to me but that may not mean anything, it may be just that I haven't found that connection. I recently discovered some additional TINCH information/connections but I have no proof (other than family oral history and statement in obit) how they connect exactly to my family. Family oral history says: great-grandmother Mary/Anna TINCH (Chambers?) had a brother George Tinch and a sister Daisy who married David Lewis. I recently found an obit and death record for this George Washington Tinch. He died at my great-aunt's house (his niece, it states in obit)in Indiana. Obit listed George's Age at death 49, date of death Nov. 1933. It listed further survived by: one sister Mrs. Daisy Lewis, two brothers Richard of Marshall, IL and Charles of Westfield, IL. The death record listed George's birth as 12 Sept. 1884 in IL, Parents: Joseph Tinch born in TN and Sarah Smith born in IL My great-grandfather who was married to Anna (see above) died in 1904 in Westfield, IL. Family oral history says their two children ages7-9 were orphaned at that time. Where great-grandfather is buried in Westfield, IL the following Tinch family members are buried near him: Richard Tinch d. 5 Sept. 1937 age 60yr 6mo 14days, Charles Jefferson Tinch d. 23 Nov. 1936 age 55yr 10mo 23 days, and Bay Tinch (no date) age 15. The next two I believe are their parents: Joseph A. Tinch d. 1 July 1887 age 43yr and Sarah J. Tinch d. 11 June 1911 age 61yr 1mo 20days. Do you see a connection? I hope someone sees a connection to their family! Peggy

Reply to Peggy - Tinch in Illinois
The only contribution I can possibly make is fact that my father, Joseph Harlan Sr., was born in what was recorded as Raleigh,Illinois, in 1915.I don't know if such a town really exists, but the fact is he was born in the state. My knowledge is so sketchy because I disconnected from the Tinch family at age six months. Max Tinch had sons Michael and Robert. Carl had daughter Ruth. That and what I've posted before is just about the extent of my knowledge.
