Hi James,
I have recently done some family history research and found that my third generation grandfather was named Andrew timbers he was a mulatto son of the slave master. He had about 6 other brothers and sisters do you know if any of them were your relative. Did you have any relatives in the plains, warrenton area. There is an african american history museum in the plains with census records and lots of family files in the area. I grew up in middleburg Va. Did you go to Loudoun Valley high schoool?

Hi Kelly. I am from Middleburg as well and went to Loudoun Valley. I must know you, Middleburg is not that big. The information you gave is very interesting and though I'm not sure if we had relatives in the Plains, I would imagine that there must be some relation. Thanks for sharing the information, anything else you know would be helpful as well. You can contact me directly by e-mail if you'd like. How old are you and where did you go to school? jt

James what is your E-mail. the message board gives limited space. I did go to Loudoun Valley too. I graduated in 86. How far back in your ancestry have you been able to go. There is an old black cemetary in Marshall and there are some Timbers buried there It was helpful to me. We should compare info somehow. Does your family have any old pictures. You should really visit the African American Historical society in the Plains. E-mail me directly at kelleyh_2000@yahoo.com

Surnames: Payne/Timbers
My name is Etta Willson. I am researching the African American Payne Family of Va. My Uncle Ben Payne married Mildred Timbers. Her parents were Arthur and Margaret Timbers. They were from the Loudoun Co. Va. area. The time frame would be early 1900's. Do any of these names sound familiar? Please e-mail me at waynewillson@prodigy.net.

Surnames: Timbers/Payne Families
My Uncle Ben Payne married Mildred Timbers; her parents were Jennie and William Timbers. They were listed in the 1870 census in Marshall (Fauquier) Va. and then listed in Loudoun Co. later. Please contact me at ettawillson@aol.com. I believe there is a connection.

My husband is a grandson of ADDIE TIMBERS (descendant from GAINES/TIMBERS) in Marshall, VA. Addie married Thomas Sony King. The museum in the Plaines is very good. There is a lot history there on most of the African American and Native American families from the area. The GAINES and TIMBERS are listed as "FREE COLORED PERSONS" in the Census Reports prior to the Civil War. They were Native American and White.
