If anyone is interested in sharing info to see if our families are related, please contact me.

Also, if there are any males who are interested in participating in a DNA surname project to see if we are distantly related, even without a paper trail, please contact me and I'll get you in touch with the Tagert heading up the project.

Hi.... I read this quite a while back and failed to respond.

My husband's family has gone by "Tigert" since about 1896. They went by "Tigett" 1850s - 1896. I've not been able to prove anything prior to that.

This family is known to have been in MS / AL since the middle 1800s.

Thanks,
Merry Tigert

Thank you for responding! There could be a connection as our Tagert line also came from AL then MS. We have traced our line from the mid to late 1700 in NC, then to TN prior to them moving to AL. If you'd feel more comfortable relaying some names and dates to me via email, please reply at btagert@hot.rr.com. Thanks! I'd love to see if we have any names in common.

As we probably all know, the name was spelled in various ways through the censuses. I have found one family that is related to my line that eventually the spelling changed to Taggert then Taggart, so there's still a possibility!

Thanks again,
Babbett
