Tiffault Canada to CT,NY,WI
I'm looking for people with any connection to or knowledge of,the family of Philias Thiffault/Tiffault (born ca 1839 in Canada) and Anastasia (Dugnay,Charmain,Germain?) (Possible 2nd wife, Mary Louise Woods of whom a son, Phillias, was born 7 June 1879.)Name was anglisised to Phillip in some later records. He was with son,Isadore P.,(b 1862 Canada, married Mattie Jackson) in 1910 census of Marshfield, Wood Co.,WI as Phillip. They were in Collinsville, Canton, CT in 1880.He worked in the axe factory there. Other children I know are; Herbert b 1876 CT (my husband's grandfather) Mary,b ca 1864, married Magovie Masson, Delia, b1872 CT. Ella b ca 1874 married George Easton, Irving, b ca 1877, Emma, b ca 1869 Isadore died in WI 1924, Herbert in NY 1956. I would very much like to know in the history of the family in Canada. Re: Tiffault Canada to CT,NY,WI
Philéas Thiffault married Anastasie Duguay 08/20/1861 in Nicolet, Nicolet county; she was the daughter of Gabriel Duguay and Julie Vallée (according to Drouin; their names were missing from the Nicolet marriage compilation).
Philéas was the son of Joseph Thiffault and a woman whose surname was Leblanc (I have seen her first name as Iraine, Hyraine, Émélie, and Sylvaine!!), who were married 03/021839 in Saint-Stanislas, Champlain county. His grandparents were Augustin Thiffault, Geneviève Lefebvre-Villemure, Joseph Leblanc, and Véronique Turcotte.
I could find only one child for Philéas and Anastasie: Pierre Hormidas Thiffault, born 06/29/1862 in Saint-Stanislas.
According to data I found on the Web, Augustin would have been the brother of my ancestor Joseph Thiffault, both being sons of Augustin Thiffault and Marie-Josephte Gervais, married 08/05/1765 in Sainte-Geneviève de Batiscan, Champlain county. I have not verified this, but it seems likely to be correct.
There is only a single Thiffault family (i.e. stemming from a single ancestor), with its roots in Champlain county.

Re: Tiffault Canada to CT,NY,WI
Thank you so much for your reply. I have been at a loss with our French Canadian research, just not knowing HOW to research there. I have other children for Phileas and Anastasie: an unnamed male b 6 Oct., 1876 in Town of Canton,Hartford County, CT; Mary Ella b 26 Oct., 1873 (same); Delia, b 12 May, 1872 (same) I have copies of these birth cert. I also have one from the same place for a child, Philias, son of Philias T. and Mary Louise Woods. From 1880 census (CT) their family group is Philias, Anastasia, Isadore (who is wrongly listed as a daughter), Mary, Emma, Ella, Irving(?) An interesting thing concerning the birth date of Pierre Hormidas, 06/29/ 1862, is that it is the same birth date I have for their son Isadore P. (twins?) Isadore was a very prominant man in Marshfield, Wood Co., WI. He died there. He was married and had 2 adopted daughters, which I think he may have adopted because they were family, somehow. They had more children as when Anastasia gave birth in Oct. 1876, it was her 10th child. I would be happy to scan and email copies if you want them.

You wrote:

I would be interested in seeing this other child, Philias' information, birth date, etc and where he was born. I am at a loss in my research for my Gilbert ancestors and have several posts here on ancestry with requests for help.
My Gilbert has several different names and birth dates from the info I have gathered, which makes it so difficult to research. He went by the name John Phylius Gilbert on his death certificate, but the family bible my aunt has says Phileas. On census info, his father is listed as Francis Gilbert, but where found, he is widowed and living with his son and his wife. There is too much info to post it all again.......just search Gilbert board for "John P. Gilbert" and my posts will come up with all the conflicting info I have on this.........Hopefully it will catch someone's eye and help me knock down this brick wall I can't get by. THanks to all!

Re: Tiffault Canada to CT,NY,WI
I know someone who is a Thiffault and has done extensive research and has a huge database of Thiffeaults. He says there are 30 or so different spellings and all Thiffeaults and their different spellings are all linked to one of two brothers who came from France. No other Thiffeault lines survive in France. If you would like contact information please let me know and I can pass it along for you. He and his wife travel across Canada and the U.S. in serch of relatives, and I think also have travelled overseas looking for more information
