My grandfathers name is Vincent Tiffany born on or around the year 1905. My fathers name is Larry Tiffany, and my name is Scott Tiffany. My father Larry had done some research on this matter and found that my grandfather was born in New York but was put on one of the orphan trains of the day and dropped in New Orleans where he started his family and that's as far back as I trace anything. From what my father had told me as a young man was that his father Vincent Tiffany was a bastard child of one of Louis Comforts Tiffany's relatives, ie: Daughter or son, and that back in that time around 1905, well it was frowned upon to have a child out of wedlock so my grandfather was put on an orphan train and that was that. Anyone who may know anything please reply, would be nice to know where my roots are.

Based on a quick search, I can provide limited information from a number of sources. According to the Social Security Death Index, Vincent was born October 25, 1902 and died August 1979 in New Orleans. He was living in Lafourche, LA with his adopted parents (Oscar Morvant) at the time of the 1920 census, However, he was not listed with the family in the 1910 census. He was living in Lafourche when he was married and began his family. I would recommend starting there for additional information. The earliest record I found was the 1905 NY State Census when he was living in the NY Foundling Home in Manhattan. I know that it is not much, but it is a start.

I did find additional information on rootsweb.com that refers to an article, "New Orleans and Orphan Trains," that appeared in Louisiana Life Magazine, May/June 1985. It says that he came to Thibodeaux, Lafourche Parish in 1909, and was given to Julia and Roger Larose by Father Favoire. Roger Larose later died and Julia remarried at which point he was adopted by Oscar and Francine Morvant in 1918. According to the article, Oscar was the father of Roger Larose, which means he was Vincent's grandfather. Vincent married Olinda Tabor (the daughter of John Tabor and Zoemie Boudreaux) on September 26, 1922 in Assumption Parish, LA. According to the notes on rootsweb, Vincent Stefani Tiffany was the son of Francis Tiffany and his wife Nellie. It also lists Francis' surname as Easop, but I do not know why. I am not sure where this information about his parentage came from, but it warrants further research. There is a Francis Tiffany living in Manhattan at the time of the 1900 census. Based on other records from familysearch.org, I believe he may have been the son of John Tiffany and Theresa Collins. Again, I am not sure why the record on rootsweb identified Francis Tiffany as Vincent's father ... it seems a bit odd.

Thanks for the info that will give me a starting point for sure>

I would suggest that you investigate the possible connection to Francis and Nellie Tiffany mentioned on rootsweb They were listed as living in Manhattan in the 1900 census with three children (Ruth, Walter and Francis Jr.). I did find an obituary for Nellie (nee Easop) Tiffany in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle dated January 6, 1954. It mentioned her late husband Frank and three children (Ruth Mann, Blanche Wichert, and Walter Tiffany). Birth records for both Ruth and Blanche record their parents as Francis Benjamin Tiffany and Ellen (Nellie) Easop. Of course, this does not necessarily mean a connection with Vincent Tiffany. However, it is significant that there is no record of Francis (Frank) Tiffany in the 1910 census. What I did find was that his daughter Ruth was living with her maternal grandfather (Frank Easop) and that Walter was living in the NY Catholic Protectory. That was a residential school established by the Catholic Church for abandoned or neglected children. It suggests something tragic happened to the family in the early 1900s that led to the family being split up, which possibly supports what had happened to Vincent.
If this parentage can be established, then it is fairly easy to begin making the connections. For example, Nellie (Easop) Tiffany was the daughter of Frank Easop and his wife Jane. Frank Easop served in the Civil War and later filed for a military pension which can be ordered through the National Archives. I believe that Francis (Frank) Benjamin Tiffany was the son of John Tiffany and Teresa Collins. And so the story goes .....
