Judy, Hiram B. Tiffany was the son of Truman Tiffany and Lorena or Loruna (I've seen it both ways) Bishop, not Bistrod. Truman's father was Joel Tiffany, but I don't have the name of Joel's wife. They lived in Springwater, Livingston County, New York, until about 1848, when they moved to Brady, Michigan. In 1850, Truman wrote a letter from Brady, asking the government about his father Joel's Revolutionary War pension being reinstated. In that letter he also asked if they'd look for the RW record of Truman's wife's father "William Bishop". You can find a copy of this letter and of Joel's pension file on line here at Ancestry.com.

What is your lineage from Roy and Julia? Also would like your email address to see if we've corresponded before or not.

There are a couple of Joel's in the book "Tiffanys of America. History and Genealogy." However, none of them have a son Truman. There is a "Joel Tiffany who was born on 7 February, 1760 and died on 21 January, 1844. Said to have married his cousin in Mansfield and lived on the Charlotte River, southwestern part of Schoharie County, New York." Could this be the Joel whose wife's name you don't have?

This apears to be the same Joel. The dates of birth and death that you stated for him are the same as those provided by Joel's family members for his Revolutionary Pension file. And in the file is a letter written by Truman Tiffany in 1850, who was from Springwater, Livingston County, New York, and in 1850 residing in Brady, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. The letter is an inquiry on behalf of his deceased father's application and also asks for RW service details for his father-in-law, William Bishop. I actually come into the Tiffany research just this past month or so - while searching for my Bishop ancestors. The marrige to Joel's cousin, was that in Mansfield, Massachusetts?

In the pension file, I saw that Joel's wife's first name was Elizabeth, per his daughter Betsey Zielie.

My email address is nbish208@aol.com. We haven't corresponded before. But, as I said, I've just recently begun researching the Tiffany family in connection with my ancestors, My 3rd great grandfather was John Fitch Bishop, born 27 June 1770, and I just recently found his birthplace and date of birth along with his parents' names. One of his sisters was Parthena (or Parthenia) Bishop, who married Benjamin Tiffany in Wales (near Brimfield), Massachusetts. You can imagine my excitement when I found this, since I've been searching for over 25 years. It was thanks to a Tiffany researcher's family tree submission that the link to the vital records source appeared.

Surnames: Brockway, Tiffany
Hi Carrie,
Just saw your post now so I hope you still will get this. Sounds like we are distant relatives. My father is Gordon Brockway, and his aunt was Frances Brockway Tiffany. I believe my father kept in touch with your grandparents. I have been going through the pictures etc. he saved from the family, and I have a collection of letters that were written to Frances when she was younger that I am currently reading through. If you are interested, I could scan some and email them to you. I also have some family pictures if you would like those as well.
