Hi!

I know this board is a little old, but I was doing some research myself on the Tiebe family name. My connection to them is through Theodore Tiebe. From what I know, he was born in Germany (Saxony) in Jan 1846. Moved to Ohio in 1852, then onto Nauvoe, Ill in 1855. Joined the Union Army in 1862, wounded at Vicksburg in 1863. He then moved to Fayette, Ohio where he later married a Sarah Elma Lyle in 1879. From that union, was born a daughter named Elizabeth Marie Tiebe - she married Andrew Jackson Brown in 1902 and Andrew was my great grandfather.

From what I understand and from the research my great uncle did before me, Theodore Tiebe had a brother named William Tiebe.

Their father was Henry Tiebe who was married to a Margaret (1st wife), then a Elizaveta (2nd wife).

I think we are talking about the same Tiebe family, if so I would like to touch base with you more on getting more information on the Tiebe's.

Please feel free to contact me. I would be glad to share any information I have as it pertains to Theodore Tiebe.

Thanks

Hello Stephan,

I am also researching Niehoff-Rasehorn. I don't have much and am at a loss concerning the Rasehorn line. What I have is; H. Rasehorn married Martha (sic) Niehoff around 1895, she was born about 1870 in Halberstadt, Saxony and died in Magdelburg, Saxony-Anhalt during WW II. Her parent were Wilhelm Niehoff and Luise Emma Machemehl. I know the lived in Magdelburg from 1900 on.

o.k. anyone heard of the Tiebe families that came from Germany in the 1800's and settled down in the Springfield, Mass. area and somehow could have had an H added to the last name to be spelled Thiebe?

just wondering my father-in-laws parents stated on the u.s. census of 1930 that his parents were born in Germany and that he was born in Mass. in 1893. O.k. then I contacted a living Thiebe in Springfield, Mass and they stated look under Tiebe in the genealogy files on the web. just wondering????

I apologize for my brusqueness before. I have since read over your message and looked back at my records, and found that there are many connections which I hadn't seen before.
Upon asking my grandpa about your father, Charles, he not only knew him, but knew about his job with the oil business. Apparently, when my grandpa last visited MIssissippi, he visited with your side of the family, specifically your aunt Marjorie, and this is one of the places he has his information from. The picture of William Tiebe with the three apples also came from your side of the family, explaining why your father would have had a copy of it.
Today we also found detailed information about Harry H.H. Tiebe's family from an old family bible, but since your father had not yet been born (it was recorded about 1925) he was not listed.
Anyway, I would be very much interested in any old photos you have or anything else you could tell us about your family. I could send you some more about our side of the family too, but you should definitely also check the message Betty Kokal left with the census record.
Anyway, best wishes, cuz!

Thanks a lot for the information. I went back and checked the records I had, and it definitely seems like the census record you have corresponds to the same family. It seemed to very neatly fill in all the holes I had had in my family tree before.

For my grandfather, who is now 85 years old, this will be especially wonderful news, because he had previously known very little about his grandfather's family.

Again, thanks a lot.

Sorry not to have written anything in a long time, but after getting the information from Stephan, I decided to look through a few genealogy websites to see if I could find anything new, and I found an 1880 census showing William Tiebe, born 1846 and occupied as a painter living in Iowa. You can check it out for yourself at www.familysearch.com under the search "William Tiebe." I found it especially interesting because I had other relatives, on my father's side, from the same area, four generations removed from the Tiebe family. Anyway, I thought you might like to know about what I found. I'm also looking into the immigration records, and maybe I'll find something there.

Thanks a lot for the information. I looked at your website and managed to find the Tiebe line from about 1750 and back, but I'm not sure whether our lines connect or not. I'm still looking though, and it's nice to have some general idea where the Tiebe may have come from in Germany.

Trotzdem vielen Dank!

I was interested to hear about your branch of the family, and it's even more interesting that you mention H.H. Tiebe as a "sweet and kind gentleman," as that's a characteristic of my grandfather as well. I've never heard him raise his voice, and he's always happy to see his grandchildren and tell them stories from his life. I guess that runs in the family.
I am really wondering now, though, whether you have any other sources of information about William, or if there is anyone who would know more about him, as I am ideally trying to find the city in Germany that he came from. I've also looked into the Hamburg Emigration list possibility, and unfortunately the lists are not done being processed, and right now it is only possible to get information from the years 1890 - 1934. After that, the lists from 1850 - 1890 will be put in the database, and after that the ones from before 1850. Basically, it looks like we're going to have to wait until 2005 or later to find lists of passengers in 1847, and this is still assuming that the Tiebe family went through Hamburg, and that we can find the right Tiebe family. I'll look into the printed edition, which can supposedly be found in some libraries (Grazier/Filbert), but that also doesn't look promising as it only covers the years 1850 - 1890.
Anyway, what I'm really interested in right now is finding some information about the earlier German ancestors - my grandpa would be very happy to hear about any information I can find, because he has been trying to learn about the grandpa he never knew his whole life. I look forward to seeing what we can come up with.

Here is some info on My Father as only I can relate......
Charles Tiebe (son of H.H. Tiebe) Married Joan B. Moore of Midnight Ms. in the late 40's. They lived in Yazoo for a few years before moving to Brazil, In.. where my older brother was born (Charles Tiebe Jr.). Then the ventured out west where my father worked (not sure what he did). My begining rememberances are of him working on or with oil rigs,,,(I, Ric, was born in 1953 in Buffalo, Wy.).
Charles was only home about 3 months out of the year (home for a week or so then gone for several weeks then back home)...Mother had her hands full.
In the late 50's Mom had a daughter named Terry and a few years later had a son named Harry.
At the time We were living in Grand Junction Colorado, but mom came back to Yazoo to first have Terry, then back again to have Harry.
In the early 60's, after Charles sold his Oil drilling bussiness, we moved back to Yazoo. By then H.H. Tiebe had already died (around 1963).
I have some pics. of the Tiebe Family that I can share but not many.
I just got off the phone with my father (Charles Tiebe) and I related the story of you having the Pic of William Tiebe with the 3 apples.....he knows of that picture and has a copy of it somewhere.
H.H. Tiebe sometime in the late 50's opened a Photo. Studio in Yazoo and had some of the best photo's of the local
black people that worked the delta farms,,,,,after all that's what you did on a Sat. night in the delta in the 50's. Go to town, have your picture made and walk the streets.
Sometime in the late 60's dad's family choose to buldoze the old buildings on the old home place that housed the back-drops and other equip. for the Studio. Lots of things were lost forever.
H.H. Tiebe never had a bad word to say to his grand children, sweet and kind gentleman. What a shame I never knew of his sister or his father.
Please relay anything you have to me.
Ric Tiebe

Okay, I have heard from your grandfather, and to make matters even more interesting that puts us fairly closely related. H.H. Tiebe was the son of William Tiebe, as I think I have already written. William Tiebe was born sometime around 1840 or so in Prussia (referring to the Prussian empire, not strictly the area currently known as Prussia), and came with his parents, names unknown, to America. He apparently had at least one sibling, a sister lamed Lizzie Tiebe, who I know very little about. That's all I know about the family, and am very, very interested to learn more, especially because this would be incredibly good news for my grandpa (Charles McOmber, son of Margaret Belle Tiebe, sister of your Harry Henry), who is now 84 years old and has been looking for information about his grandfather for years. Anything you could provide about where the family came from in Germany would be especially appreciated, because I am currently in Germany, and for the next two months.
I also have some stories about our William Harry Tiebe, if you would like those, though it is always possible you've already heard them all from your father.
I hope we can set up a good correspondence, and maybe we could continue this using e-mail.

I keyed in Tiebe in the search section and found you.
My Grand Father was H.O. Tiebe. Married to Hattie.
They settled in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
If you can connect to that, It may help with any missing links that you or I are missing.
I really have no more information because my family is so disconnected.
Tiebe is such a "loner" in last names. There are such few of us........a blessing and a curse.
Ric Tiebe

My History

JD's stepson, Harlan is my great-great grandfather.
My grandfather was Glenn Schepers, the son of August
& Clara. My grandmother was Ruth Hohn Schepers. I'm
not sure about Anna's side of the family tree. I do know
that William/Willem Schepers (Christena's first husband/father
of her 4 children) was Anna's brother. My great-aunt Elsie Schepers
(she was married to Glenn's brother Arthur) found an OLD picture/family
portrait that was unidentified. The number of kids in the picture fits with
JD & his children, including Gerhardt (?). It may still be in Iowa, with Elsie's
daughter.

Great! So your great-great grandfather was
JD Bush? Do you happen to have the family portrait
that includes Gearhart? My great aunt had an unidentified
picture that I'm positive was a family portrait of JD with
his children, Christena wasn't in it. Actually, you are still
on my family tree, since Christena's first husband was married
to Willem Schepers, the brother of JD's first wife. :) I look
forward to hearing from you.

Thanks so much! Take care. Diana

Well, we are obviously talking about the same William Tiebe. I had known most of this already, but I am very interested to meet another descendant. I believe that I have seen your name on the charts my grandpa, Charles McOmber gave me. I believe he would be your cousin. Is he? I am curious if you have any more information, since I am going to Germany next year and plan to do some research in Prussia, where I heard William Tiebe was born. I look forward to hearing from you.
Jon Frost

I know nothing about your ancestor, but I believe that she could possibly a sister of my great-great grandfather, William Tiebe, who was born in 1837 in Germany. I know already that he had at least one sister, Lizzie, and I know that also settled in Iowa, but I know very little else. The death date for Christena Tiebe is about right, so it is worth looking into whether they are related. If you have a picture, it is possible that I could find some family resemblance, or if you have any other information about her than maybe I could somehow confirm this.
Jon Frost
