John Caldwell Tidball, Kurtz and Carmichael
Good Morning All
Another Tidball descendant here and since we are all from Thomas and Elizabeth Brownhill Tidball in the US, I guess we are all family somehow. I have a fairly good Tidball family listing that my grandmother and her sister worked on in the early 1920's--mostly on my family line starting with John, the 3rd child of Thomas and Elizabeth. My family located in the Allegheny County PA area.
i have a couple of odd pieces that I'm not sure who they belong to, so thought i would ask here;
The first is a very well done biography of Col John Caldwell Tidball, who carries quite the resume from the armed services. He says his father is William 1796-1887 and Marie Caldwell Tidball and he was born in VA, now W VA. My line has a Wm born 1796, but they do not connect. Any idea who he belongs to?
Next I have a hand written letter from Mrs S E Kurtz Sac City Iowa dated 2/11/1922. It does not give much on her family, mostly chit chat. I think I connect her to Richard Tidball 1 st child of Thomas and Elizabeth. Would love more detail on that side of the family.
Finally, i have several hand written letters from Mrs W J Carmichael in Willoughby OH, earliest in 1921. She is from Mary Tidball 5th child of Thomas and Elizabeth, married Moses Wallace. Again not much detail on this side of the family which I would love to have.
Would be willing to share a copy of the letters, I think hand written documents from family are the closest DNA I'll get LOL Also willing to share or compare what I have on other family members (sometimes things get a little jumbled in such large families)
Happy Hunting

Re: John Caldwell Tidball, Kurtz and Carmichael
Actually that branch came thru Philadelphia and settled through PA and beond I believe. However Their was a branch that arrived later in 1859 that settled in upstate NY that came thru the line of Richard Tidball who married Joan Popham Oct 8th 1699 in Puritor,Somerset,England and has no direct connection as far as I can tell to Thomas Tidball and Elizabeth Brownhill unless Richard and Thomas were brothers which is only speculation since their is no yet found connection as far as I know.

Re: John Caldwell Tidball, Kurtz and Carmichael
I am researching the Dana family that married into the Tidball family, John Caldwell Tidball's second wife. I recently found baptismal records in San Francisco with children of Alexander Scott Tidball (b. abt 1820 VA) and his wife Cinderella (b. TN) and those of William C. and Mary Tidball (Napoleon Dana served as sponsor for some). Do you know if this Alexander Scott and William Caldwell are related? Do you have a way to contact Eugene Tidball? I thought he might be able to help me with a few research questions.
Thanks, Mark

Re: John Caldwell Tidball, Kurtz and Carmichael
Hi, my name is Cynthia and my great grandmother is Fern Tidball Daily. Last night my visiting Uncle Stanley A Winder, Son of Wilma Jean Daily who was the Daughter of James and Fern Daily; came in with a tattered first page of "Extract of Tidball Genealogy" prepared 1885-1899 by John Caldwell Tidball. If we are family I would love to pay you for helping me get the rest of the story for my uncle. Please let me know if I can provide you with any information. Cynthia Gay Binford Meschi

Re: John Caldwell Tidball, Kurtz and Carmichael
Cynthia, My name is Angela and I am a 10th generation descendant of the originating Tidballs in America.
My family has been tracing the geoneology for many generations. It is no where near complete but we have Wilma Jean Daily, daughter of Mildred Fern Tidball and James Daily, born 1919, Died????. Married a Mr. Winder, I show they had 3 children. Joan Winder, Gay Winder & Skip Winder. Could Skip be the Uncle you were referring to? If so, I have more information for you. Also, would you mind updating me on who your parents are and if you have children so that I can update my records as well. Thanks Angela Anderson, daughter of Sherry Rank Gustin 9th generation Tidball descendant

Re: John Caldwell Tidball, Kurtz and Carmichael
I do not have alot of information from that point forward on your line but I can give back history if you would like, Thank you for the information you provided it helped me continue on the family records as well as clarified a few empty sections. I will include what I have going backwards for you. Mildred Fern Tidball was in the 7th generation. She was the youngest of 2 daughters of Lenora Shipley and Richard Yates Tidball, born 1892, died 1962. She married Jeams Alfred Daily. 6th Generation Richard Yates Tidball, son of Adeline Chadwich and James Tidball, born Nov.22,1862, dies 1951. Married Lenora Shipley where they resided at 402 Strong Street in Brighton, Colorado. They had 4 children. 5th generation James Tidball, son of Mary Blair and Joseph Bertram Tidball, born August 5 or 15, 1828, dies Jan.2, 1891. Married 1854 to Adeline Chadwick, He served in the Civil War,1861-1865 in teh Union Army and was wounded in the Battle of the Stones River, Murfreesboro, Tenn. Dec 31, 1862. They resided 1890 at Delhi, Kansas, having moved there in 1879. They had 6 children. 4th Generation Joseph Bertram Tidball, son of Nancy Cheney and Abraham Tidball, born 1797 in Allegheny County, PA. died 1864. Married 1818 to Mary Blair, b 1805, d 1854. They had 8 children. He they married second wife in 1854. Mary Jane Buck. She died by drowning in 1865. They had 3 children. Joseph Bertram Tidball had 11 children in total by 2 marriages. 3rd Generation Abraham Tidball, son of Elizabeth Scott and John Tidball,. Born 1749 in Chester County, PA., dies baout 1819 by drowning in the Mississippi River near Commerce, Scott Co., Missouri. Abraham, along with his brother Thomas, accompanied their uncle William Tidball, 1736-1814 and migrated some time between 1775 and 1784 from, Chester County, PA. to Allegheny Co., PA. Abraham married Nancy Cheney in West Bottingham Twp., Chester Co., PA. It was believed he was married before he migrated to ALlegheny County, PA> The records show that in Chester and Delaware County, PA. the name of Cheney or Chyney had been prevelent there from the earliest times. It is likely that one or two of their children were born in West Nottingham Twp., Chester Co., PA. General John Caldwell Tidball, originator of the genealogy of the Tidball name speaks of this Abraham Tidball: " Thomas Tidball is supposed to have born the father of the two brothers, Thomas and Abram Tidball, who with their uncle William Tidball, migrated from the neighborhood of Philadelphia about 1765-1775 and settles in Allegheny County, PA. near Pittsburg, PA. There, born to Abraham Tidball and his wife Nancy Cheney, were 9 children." 2nd Generation John Tidball, son of Elizabeth Brownhill and Thomas Tidball, born Oct 18, 1719, near Marcus Hook on Lower Chichester Township, Chester Co., Pa. dies April 25, 1764 near Nottingham, in West Nottiongham Township, Chester Co., PA. Married about 1745 to Elizabeth Scott. She was the daughter of Samuel Scott of West Nottingham Township, Chester Cou., PA. Lower Chichester Township. There were six children born all in West Nottingham Township, Chester Co., PA. Thomas was the second child born to Thomas Tidball, the originating Tidball on American soil, and Elizabeth Brownhill.
Let me know if I can help with any other information
Thanks Angela
