Unfortunately my Tooke information runs out in the 17th century in Virginia. I am still stuck on Nicholas Tichborne's connection to the Hampshire Tichbornes of the 16th century. I have received a lot of Tichborne information but not the connection I am looking for. Thanks

My database "davidcole3" at World Connect (below) links all of these surnames by marriage around the year 1500. I have heard, but not proven, that John Samborne is the ancestor of Steven Samborne who was the founder of Hampton, New Hampshire, USA. I will soon be updating this database, The update will include a brother of Dorothy Tichborne (B.c1503) named Nicholas Tichborne (B.1525) who married Elizabeth Rythe (B. c 1525). This Nicholas might be the father of Mary (D.1623). Unfortunately, only a daughter named Jane is listed. My source for this new information is: Lee Minnis lminnis@worldnet.att.net, "Electronic Data"

My maiden name is Tooke, and I just happened to come across your message. I have a book on the Tooke family, "Geneological History of the Tooke and Related Families -- Ancient English, Early American, and the Present" by Mary Tooke Rockwell and Ida Gertrude Tooke. In this book, the Tichbourne Curse is discussed. The Tooke relationship to Tichborne is thus: William Tooke of Popes in Com. Hertf. Auditor of the Court of Wardes, married Alice, Da. of Robert Barley of Bibsworth in Com. Hartford. Their children were Walter Tooke, eldest son, William Tooke of Hartford, who married Mary, da. of Nicholas Tichborne of Roydon in Com. Essex., Nicholas Tooke and Jasper. William and Mary's children were William Tooke, eldest son, James Tooke of London, 4th son a. 1634, who married Dorothy, da. of John Gray of London and of Greye's inne. Dorothy and James' children were -- John Tooke, eldest sonn, James, Edward, Xpofer, William, and Mary. I believe the James just mentioned is our immigrant ancestor, who came to Virginia in 1621. I hope this information helps you! I took it from a chart in the Tooke book mentioned above. Also, there is a reference to Life Magazine, Aug. 12, 1947. I haven't read the article, but I assume it's about the Tichborne Curse. Happy Hunting! Jayme

Re: Tooke -"Geneological History of the Tooke and Related Families
I would love to purchase a copy of the book mentioned. "Geneological History of the Tooke and Related Families -- Ancient English, Early American, and the Present" by Mary Tooke Rockwell and Ida Gertrude Tooke. Does anyone have one they would like to sell? Mary - grand daughter of James Arthur Tooke of Louisiana

Re: Tooke -"Geneological History of the Tooke and Related Families
Maybe you could check on ebay to find a copy of the book. I definitely want mine, and I don't know if there were any extra ones printed. But if someone had an extra one, I think ebay would be the place to look! Good luck!
