Re: William TICHBORNE b abt 1831 in Manchester area
I have since discovered more info which is always fantastic for a genealogist!
William TICHBORNE was born 1831ish in Manchester area, Lancashire, s/o Mary DUFFY & William TICHORNE, both born Ireland.
Mary DUFFY was b abt 1892, d/o Patrick DUFFY & Ann MAXWELL. Mary DUFFY Tichborne died Jan 16 1867 in City Poorhouse, Glasgow, Lanark Scotland.
Obviously, Mary DUFFY & William TICHBORNE were living in Manchester earlier when William Jr was born but moved to Glasgow. They at one time lived at 33 Trongate .... She was a widow by 1861 Census.
William Jr was in Scotland before 1852 because that's when he marries Mary HAMILTON on Jun 4th in Abbey, Paisley, Renfrew.
William Jr & Mary's older children were all born in Glasgow -
1] Mary the eldest was possibly born in Renfrew county Scotland.
2] William born Apr 12 1855 in Whitelaw's Land, Maryhill, Glasgow. He died May 9 1856 in Clyde, Glasgow.
3] Ann born Dec 16 1856 in Clyde, Glasgow and died Nov 1921 in Whittingham Psychiatric Hospital in Whittingham Lancashire and buried in Heaton Cemetery, Bolton.
4] Esther b Aug 12 1858 in Clyde, Glasgow ~ my 3X GR grandma.
5] William b Feb 4 1860 in Clyde, died bet 1871-1881 Bolton
6] James b Feb 7 1862 in Clyde, died bet 1881-1891 Bolton LAN
7] Elizabeth b 1864 in Hutchesontown, Glasgow and married Charles DURHAM in 1893.
8] Robert Semple b Mar 24 1866 in Rutherglen Road, Hutchesontown, Glasgow; died bet 1891-1901
Sometime after the 1861 Census in Glasgow, Wm Jr & Mary and children moved to LIverpool and that's where their next child was born. This would explain why his mother was forced to go into the poor house and why she died there.
9] Jane b 1868 in Liverpool Lanc. Married Thomas WELSH who was born in Scotland and had 4 children as of 1901 Census when they were still in Bolton.
10] Ellen b 1871; died 1873 in Liverpool
11] Catherine b 1874 in Breighmet LANC; married Thomas Jone TURNER in 1900 and was living in Ardwick South Manchester as of Census date.
12] Nancy b 1877 in Bolton; died 1880 in Bolton
William TICHBORNE Jr was buried Jul 12 1890 and his wife Mary HAMILTON was buried Feb 20 1893 in Heaton Cemetery, Bolton, Lancashire.

He died 1911 in Bolton, Lancashire and was the husband of Mary TICHBORNE and the father of Mary [died in infancy], Susanna, William, David and John.

Re: William TICHBORNE b abt 1831 in Manchester area
Hi annonymous, Concerning Tichborne. Specifically the William who came to Liverpool. Where was he living in Liverpool (1871 Census)?
I think I may have some side interest information for you.
I have been exploring an addresse in Liverpool, since it is where my Great grandfather lived in 1881. Number 1, Tichborne Terrace. Well. Long odds you might think. However I have found that the name of this street (alleyway really) was changed between 1871 and 1881, from Holland Terrace to Tichbourne Terrace. Maybe the new owner was your William. It was a Terrace with only 18 terraced houses on it, rental property is what it looks like, based on the occupancies from 1851 to 1901, all of which I have extracted from the Censuses. So it was very likely investment property. So where did your William live? This investment poperty was in West Derby, very close to The Liverpool Institute, a private educational institution which shows easily on maps to this day. Each rental unit was only 15 by 25 foot, three story with basement and often housed a dozen people from three different families. All in the censuses, and on maps. Hugh

Re: William TICHBORNE b abt 1831 in Manchester area
Very interesting info to say the least.
My William was living on *Dale Street*, Liverpool in 1871 along with his wife and many children and he was a boot and shoe maker.
His mother died in the Glasgow Poorhouse in 1867 so I know he was in Liverpool by then and his next child was born Liverpool in 1868.
Wm was living in Breighmet in 1874.
Sorry, I'm not sure where Dale Street was in Liverpool.
Thanks for taking the time to post this :o)

Re: William TICHBORNE b abt 1831 in Manchester area
Thank you also for the courtesy of a reply.
Dale Street is in down town central Liverpool. I have often walked along it when I was young and lived there. Pretty much at the commercial center. But that Breighmet ? What is that? It does not sound like an English town or anything like it.
Brighton is the only name that to me connects with it.
However, the son of a lady who dies in a poor house does not sound like the kind of guy who would invest in rental property. Mind you that name "poor house" is not as clear cut as we hear it nowadays. It could also be a hospital. In what county was "Breighmet" ? Hugh

Re: William TICHBORNE b abt 1831 in Manchester area
Breighmet is about 2.5 miles from Bolton in Lancashire where they were living in 1881.
Thanks for the info regarding just where Dale Street is in Liverpool.
I know that 2 of their children were born there and died young and have never really thought of following their deaths up as I suppose burials might even be found for them.
