Surnames: Ticehurst and Larkin
Hi

I am looking for a Robert Ticehurst who married an Elizabeth Larkin (born in Brighton around 1816) in Kent around 1836, had a daughter Ann and then left England on the Augusta Jessie in Oct 1837 for NSW, Australia. Their daughter Elizabeth, born in Sydney in 1842, went on to marry Francis Downing and then James William Leonard Tubby.

Just writing in regsrd to Ann Ticehurst & your post re Robert Ticehurst & Elizabeth Larkins.
The above were my GG Grandparents. Their daughter Ann was having children out of wedlock. In 1856 she had Robert John & then Codelia Rebecca in 1862 - neither had fathers listed. In 1866 Ann married Alexander Gardner. Ann died 1896 in Sydney.
I realise this does not gell with your entry but we have done a lot of research done on the Ticehurst family in Sydney.
As for the parents Robert & Elizabeth. Ther is no record of where or when Robert died. Elizabeth went on to remarry Thomas Rowe in 1857.
Like to hear from you re the info you put on the site.
Regards
Bev

Surnames: Ticehurst, Rowe, Tubby, Downing, Selmes
Hi Bev, thanks for your reply. The small piece of information I posted was all I had on the Ticehurst family at that time and since then I have received quite a bit. I also don't know when Robert Ticehurst died, but his parents were William Ticehurst & Elizabeth Selmes I believe. I was told Robert was born in 1813 in Brede, Sussex (by a Bill Ticehurst who has apparently done a lot of research into the Ticehurst family). I have Robert and Elizabeth's children as Ann b. 1837 Kent, George William b. 1839 Sydney, Elizabeth b. 1842 Sydney, Ellen b. 1845 Sydney, Harriet Ann b. 1850 Sydney - all from Bill. My main interest is Elizabeth, the daughter, as she had quite a mysterious and tangled life. She appeared to change her surname when the fancy took her and gave her parents names differently on several occasions which made it difficult to know who exactly they were. She married two people on my family tree, a Francis Charles Downing in 1863 and when he died married James William Leonard Tubby in 1871. The two children from her first marriage were brought up with children from the second marriage.

I had also been given the information that Elizabeth (the mother) had married Thomas Rowe when Robert Ticehurst died, Thomas was from Cornwall and a widower when he married Elizabeth. There are still some loose ends to pick up.

Does the information I have sound right to you? I would be interested to hear from you.

Regards
Janet

Hi Janet
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner - ah! forgot to go back in & check ancestry!!!!!
All the Ticehursts seem to have led tangled lives. They are so frustrating.
So, yes Elizabeth did marry Thomas Rowe 1857 & Elizabeth did call herself Elizabeth Tyser. I have the certificate if you would like a copy.
They did like to change the spelling of the surname Ticehurst, Ticeshurst, Tysehurst & Tyser.
When my William Robert married for the 2nd time he gave his mothers name as Ann Row but did not list a father!!!
I have to say that I haven't looked at what your Elizabeth did as I have been trying to get my head around my William.
My William Robert is buried in Wagga Wagga & until recently had no marker on his grave. So a friend made a cross for me & we had it written on & placed on Williams grave.
Bill & I went to school together & have been workiing on the tree for ages. Bill has travelled o/s to Brede to follow up bits & pieces.
Anyway, hope the above is of interest & look forward to hearing from you again.
regards
Bev

Hi Bev

Thank you for the offer of Thomas Rowe and Elizabeth's marriage cert details but I do already have a copy of that. Daughter Elizabeth called herself Ticey when she married Francis Downing, no parents named on that marr. cert; and she was Robertson when she married James Tubby, with Charles Robertson, brewer, as father and Elizabeth Shaw mother. Very confusing.

Where does your William Robert fit into the Ticehurst family please, as I don't seem to have him. Reading that you had a cross made and put on William's grave was, I felt, a lovely thing to do. I wonder what happened to Robert Ticehurst?

If it would be easier to email me, please go to my webpage at http://www.watering.demon.co.uk/ and there is an email link.
