We are in the process of reconstructing the family of Jonathan TIBBET of Norton Twp 1820 and Northampton Twp. Summit County OH, 1830-1860 to Kern Co. California 1870. Jonathan's children left Ohio about 1850. Some went to Michigan (OTTAWA, KENT, ALLEGAN): Andrew, Henry, and eventually Ruby; others went to Iowa (WARREN, JASPER, TAMA): Hulda and William; others to California during the Gold Rush: Jonathan Jr, Edward, Phineas and Lucinda. Hannah stayed in Ohio, Norton Twp. until she died in 1876. Philena and Edward briefley in IN ( NOBLE, LAGRANGE)The California branch was prominent in California history. Edward (KERN CO )was the grandfather of Lawrence Tibbet a star of the Metropolitan Opera in the 30s and 40s, while Jonathan Jr.'s (LOS ANGELES CO)son was an advocate for native California Indian tribes.
