Surnames: Tibbals, Tibbles, Tibbalds, Theobalds
The earliest branch of the Tibbals (spelled variously Tibbals, Tibbalds, Theobalds, Tibbels, Tibbles, etc.) family to come to America left on the ship Truelove in 1635, where Thomas Tibbalds or Tibbals was instrumental in founding the township of Milford in New England. In Milford, Derbyshire there were still a number of Tibbals, Tibbles, and Tibbalds etc residing during the 1970's. There was a Tibbals Realty based in Milford at that time. You might search in the Milford area.
Although the introduction of the Theobald name is often attributed to the Norman French, as Thibauld, there were Theobalds in the British Isles much earlier. Alfred the Great had a brother named Theobald who died fighting the Danes, according to the Anglo-Saxon chronicle. You own family may have some connection to Theobalds Square in London, or Theobalds Castle. A WWII vet whom I met in a pub in Hastings told me that there was a site in Burma named Tibbals Pass, and I found the name in an old atlas. It may have been named for one of your relatives who served the crown. A friend named Greg Brunt told me that in his home village on the Welsh border/west country there was a churchyard with an enclosure of old graves in which Tibbals and Brunts were buried together. Good luck on your search. Please let me know if you find anything on the family, especially in Milford.

Hi Margaret
We are related. James and Sarah are either my Great or great-great grandparents. My full tree is on genes reunited, but for some reason, I've yet to download the full tree to this site. I must get around to it. I could try and e-mail it to you if you let me have your e-mail address. Mine is simartin57@virginmedia.com. I have been told that 1 of my/our Tibbals' sailed on the Mayflower to USA. But I don't have dates or landing places.

I am at work at the moment, but James & Sarah (nee Read) are my great, great, great grandparents. When I get home, I'll have a chat with my wife, to see how I can let you view my tree. Once you can view it, please feel free to keep looking at it, as I've a number of names still to be added. I now live in Liverpool, England.

Hi Simon

I have just picked up on your recent activity here and wonder if you have come across William Tibbel (or Theobald)B1786 in Essex (probably Stebbing Green) married to Sarah Willis B 1791. William is my 4x great grandfather.
