I have started tracing my history and have found that the vast majority were farmers in what is now North Cumbria, mainly around Penrith. They have married into Westgarth mid-1800s. Does anyone know anything about them?
Thanks very much

Richard

PS any tips from people also attempting this in cumbria would be great!

Am also tracing Thwaite's family around that area, as far back as 1600s in Wensleydale Yorkshire, moving to Westmorland in the late 1800s. Wonder if we have any links?

Sorry, don't have that name in my tree. In our tree the name actually changes back to Thwaite, and it is that name that we have in that area.

Hi Michelle. Been looking back through the archives and noticed you have ancestors from Cumbria and Yorkshire. I have been researching my tree and also have similar connections. Do you have any of the following in your tree:
ALEXANDER (b.1825) married MARY parents of SIMON (b.1861) married MARGARET ANN THORNBORROW in turn had 7 children one of which was EDWARD ALEXANDER my g.grandfather. Any help would be appreciated

My Thwaites line are also from Cumberland- there is a tiny facebook page someone created called Thwaites Family Tree that I just recently found. the man who runs it wrote the history of the Thwaites family on there, basicaly if your Thwaites are from Cumberland it's where they started and so we are related somehow :)
