Surnames: Thudium, Phillips, Krebs, Chorpening, Davidson
George, eldest son of the late Alexander M. and Rachel Krebs Phillips, was born in Orange township on the fifteenth day of October, 1850, and "the finger of God touched him" on June 17, 1909. Both his parents were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and early in life he united with the church. When he was coonverted he gave his heart unreservedly to God, and for forty years was faithful to his vows. He seldom missed a Church service and always gave cheerfully and liberally in the support of the church he loved.
Jan. 1, 1878, he was married to Calista Chorpening, who survives him with their four sons: Pleasant, Addison, Ernest, and Chester, and one daughter, Mrs. Pearl Thudium, all of Troy Township. Two daughters, Mrs Minnie L. Davidson and Calista, preceded him in death.
In the spring of 1892 he removed to Nova, engaging in the lumber business, in which he was successful. (next sentence hardly readable). As a husband he was loving and kind; as a father patient and indulgent, as a neighbor, obliging, helpful, considerate.
He is survived in addition to his immediate family by six grandchildren, three sister, one brother, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends.
His funeral services, largely attended, were held at the M.E. church at Nova, in charge of his pastor, Rev. M.T. Scarborough, assisted the the Revs. Jones and Hevlow.
