There are many different places called Thrift Street, Thrift Lane, etc. Just for fun, let's list them, and if possible dig up the details about who (or what) they were each named after.

Bonus points: Mozart's family lived on Thrift St. in London, but the name was later named to Frith St. Usually, in other examples of the names changing, it goes the other way, changing from Frith to Thrift. Why was Thrift St. renamed Frith St?

There was a Thrift Street in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. Several cool pictures can be found if you do a web search.

Also in the UK,
Thrift St, North Tyneside
Thrift St, Irchester, Northamptonshire
Thrift St, Wollaston, Northamptonshire
Thrift St, Higham Ferrers, Northamptonshire
Thrift Rd, Branston, Staffordshire
Thrift Rd, Heath And Reach, Bedfordshire
Thrift Ln, Cox Green, Windsor and Maidenhead

In the USA,
Thrift Street is in Kingland, GA, due east of the Okefenokee Swamp.
But even closer to the swamp is Thrift St in Folkston, GA.
Nearby is Thrift Rd, Woodbine, GA

Thrift Rd, Blackshear, Pierce Co, GA
Thrift Rd, Garfield, Jenkins Co, GA
Thrift Rd, Cowpens, SC
Thrift St, Greenville, SC
Thrift St, Pittsboro, NC
Thrift St, Madison, VA
Thrift Ln, Hopewell,VA
Thrift Ln, Woodbridge, VA
Thrift Ln, Chestertown, MD
Thrift Rd, Clinton, MD
Thrift St, Gaithersburg, MD

Others?

Here are a bunch of Thrift streets I found by searching online (i.e., the lazy man's way). I doubt if I got them all. These are sorted by state and town. I wish I knew how they got named, but I don't have a clue. It's interesting how the southern states have the most.

OJ must not be paying attention, or he'd point out that Thrift Rd, Garfield, Jenkins Co, GA is not really in Garfield. It takes off from Elam Rd in the northeast part of the outskirts of Garfield, and turns north northeast. The point where it intersects Highway 23 is a place called Thrift, GA, so small that google maps can't even find it, unless you zero in on it yourself. In Luther Thrift's 1989 book, The Thrifts of Okefinokee, it is mentioned. Shortly after Robert Thomas Thrift's death in 1837, his children moved from Washington County in Georgia to Tattnall County. During their migration they "settled for a short time (probably less than a year) in an area that became known as Thrift, Georgia. In later years, the building of a railroad through the area kept the name alive. Today, Thrift, GA is in present Jenkins County between Garfield and Millen on State Hiway 23."

Richard, Here's some information on my Great Uncle. He never had any children but named many streets and Developments for his family. I believe the Chesterville was named after my Grandfather Dr. Chester Bird Thrift.

Born in Boonesboro, Iowa, in 1873, Hugh Thrift was a veteran of both the Spanish-American War (1898) and World War I (1914-1918). Thrift moved to Washington, D.C. in 1902, and over the next forty years was responsible for eight residential developments in the Washington, D.C. area between 1902 and 1942, including Michigan Park in northeast Washington, D.C. and Jefferson Village in Arlington.
24 Thrift was also the developer for Woodmont, located directly adjacent to Maywood on the north side of Lorcom Lane. Maywood and Woodmont would together become known as “Thrifton Village,” in honor of Hugh Thrift. Thrift married John Harsha’s daughter, Margaret “May,” for whom Maywood is said to have taken its name.
25 During the early development of Maywood, Thrift and his wife lived with John Harsha at 1602 17th Street, N.W. and had his offices in the Union Trust Building at 1405 New York Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C.26 Thrift served on the board of directors of the First Federal Savings and Loan Association and the National Mortgage and Investment Company.27 In his later years, Thrift was an active philanthropist and participated in charitable and religious ventures through his participation in the YMCA, the Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church, and Children’s Hospital.28 Hugh Thrift died of leukemia in 1962 at the age of 89.29
