Who was Lucy Thrift, the 3rd wife of Hughty Perkins (1772-1862), Dinwiddie Co VA?
She was born ~1772-1818, and died Aft. ~1838.

The only Lucy Thrift in Dinwiddie I know of is the wife of unknown Adams & daughter of William Thrift (bef 1761-1817)
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...
Could they be the same Lucy? I would think if she married a second time, her 1st husband's surname would be used in announcements, not her maiden name.
Is more known about any of these people?

It looks to me that this family needs a lot more work, there are children not listed according to the census. They are on the 1850/60 Southern Div. Dinwiddie Co. VA Census.

1850 Southern Div. Dinwiddie Co. VA
House 102 Family 103
Hughty Perkins 78 Farmer VA
Lucy T. 54 VA
William 45
Benjamin 20
George 16
Sally A. 14
Harriet 13

Living in with
House 101 Family 102
Martin/Mastin Aberbatgt 61
Sally a Abernathy 53 Farmer
James 25
Thomas 24
David Perkins 21
Elizabeth Perkins 18 (likely David's wife)

Living in with
House 103 Family 104
Francis Young 31 Farmer
Mary W. 29
Frances A. Perkins 22
Robert Young 4
Wyatt T. 3.

House 295 Family 296
Littleton Perkins Overseer 23

1860 Revenue Dist 2
House 235 Family 230
Hughty Perkins 88 Farmer
Lucy 66
Mary E.Sturdivant 14
James H. Sturdivant 9

The Sturdivant children are likely grandchildren.

Hughty and Lucy must have died between Jun 1860 and 1870, mostly likely during the WBTS. Lucy Thrift was b. 1794/96. Wth Littleton and Benjamin I count at least 8 children providing David and Frances are theirs and I think they are.
If Littleton was the oldest it would set their marrage as ca1826.

Frances Perkins m. James H. Abernathy 20 Jan 1852

Sarah Ann Perkins m. Alexander Johnson 8 Jan 1851 (Sally A. on the 1850 Sally is old nickname for Sarah.)

Mary M. Perkins m. Francis Young 31 Jan 1838 (They are living next door to Hughty and Lucy on 1850 maybe one of his children and may well be one of Lucy Thrift's, this would make Hughty and Lucy's marriage ca 1819/20 or before.

Thanks, Clay!
Death year for Hughty (1862) was mentioned in the Bible entries, see first post. The Bible entries (avail online, see first post) do contain more info on some of the descendants, which I didn't transcribe since I am focusing on Lucy & Hughty (and some may have been hard to read).

This can be found by Google book search:
Virginia 1860 Agricultural Census, Vol 2 By Linda L. Green
Dinwiddie Co
The original docs had ~40 columns, of which the following were transcribed in the book:
1-name of owner
2-acres of improved land
3-acres of unimproved land
4-cash value of the farm
5-value of farm implements and machinery
13-value of livestock

Hughty Perkins 85, -, 344, -, 72
Littleton W. Perkins, 168, 200, 4000, 100, 344

However an online family tree gives Littleton W. Perkins (same ~time, same place) different parents. There may be two different Littleton Perkins.

Just FYI, this same reference lists
Dinwiddie Co:
John Thrift, 200, 600, 4000, 250, 720

Gloucester Co:
William J Thrift, 80, 121, 1565, 15, 300 (I suspect this is William Jackson, since William Jesse was a coachmaker, never listed as a farmer)
William JJ Thrift, 150, 312, 2500, 50, 254 (William Jefferson Jeremiah Thrift)
[there might have been other Thrifts listed that I missed or have forgotten about. Also, I haven't looked for volume 1 yet)

There was an elder Littleton W. Perkins b. 1808 listed on the 1850 census.

The Bible entry is smudged, but it looks like it says each of the three wives had 5 kids, always 3 boys & 2 girls. Based on that (assuming the writer is correct) & your data, they might be split up this way:

Wife #1
1 William 1805
2
3
4
5

Wife #2
1 Mary M. bef 1820 m 1838
2
3
4 Littleton 1827
5 Frances A. 1828 m 1852

Lucy Thrift b 1794-1796 m 1828-1829?
1 David 1829 m bef 1850
2 Benjamin 1830
3 George 1834
4 Sarah Ann 1836 m 1851
5 Harriet 1837

This suggests that this is probably Lucy's first marriage (but possibly her 2nd) so Thrift is probably her maiden name. She is apparently NOT Lucy Ann Thrift, daughter of William Thrift, who married Adams and had descendants.

I'll have to write my source and ask one more time for dates & details on Lucy Adams. Here is all I have on Lucy Ann Thrift Adams:
"My husband's ggg grandpa was William Thrift. I had been searching for the maiden name of his gg grandma, Lucy Ann Adams, and found the reference on the plat from 1820 where she was listed as William's daughter."

Littleton & Benjamin having different mothers explains why the Bible entry calls their children, Fannie May Perkins & William Sydnor Perkins (who married) "half first cousins."

So based on the (approximate) birth dates for the kids reported in the census, Lucy's marriage date is narrowed down to probably ~1828-1829, likely 1828; the second wife may have died related to the birth of Francis.

Benjamin Jolly (Bef. 1760-Aft 1731)
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&...
had a son Colwell P Jolly who married Mary Thrift, daughter of William. Their son, Archibald T Jolly (~1803-1864), married Elizabeth Perkins (d bef 1850). I don't know the relationship between Elizabeth Perkins and Hughty, I would guess his daughter. She was likely born soon after 1803 based on her husband's age.

Benjamin Jolly (Bef. 1760-Aft 1731) left a will which gives items in his Will to:
"my grandson Benjamin M. (note: son of Daniel)
"my son Daniel"
"my grandchild Susanna Spain"
"my son Colwell"
"Colwell's two sons Archibald C. and Benjamin M.
"my grandson Benjamin Jolly, son of Colwell
"Lucy Ann Jolly daughter of Benjamin M. Jolly"
"balance of my estate to my two sons Daniel Jolly and Colwell Jolly"
Executors: Benjamin M. Jolly and my friend Henry Young
Dated: February 24, 1831
Witnessed by:
James G. Young, Hughty Perkins, and Robert G. Young

So it still seems as if Lucy Thrift who married Hughty Perkins was probably a close relative (daughter or possibly a niece?) of William Thrift of Dinwiddie Co. William & Martha were having kids up to ~1798. Mary Thrift was born about 10 years before THIS Lucy, and also married 10 or more years before this Lucy. Lucy could have been Mary's younger sister, IF there is no conflict with the apparent union between Lucy Ann Thrift & unknown Adams. Could Adams have been her first husband who died early?
